But there also is an undercurrent of racism and anti-immigration sentiment when discussing gang problems. Several speakers at last Tuesday's City Council meeting, where dozens of residents packed the chamber, said they believed illegal immigrants were responsible for the violence and that Santa Cruz's "sanctuary city" status was preventing police from combating gang violence.

Local business can't even go to their City Council meeting and speak up without being called racist by the press??!!

When those business move out or close, and the town becomes another Detroit (which was run by racists for decades who demanded that gangs not be treated badly).....please do not expect out of town "racist" white people to pay even more because Santa Cruz lost its tax base, JUST LIKE DETROIT!
