Louisiana Spill: Big Oil’s Chernobyl?

Speaking of Chernobyl, I NAIVELY wonder if a “sarcophagus” is also
an answer to the current problem.

My “Okie” thought is to drop a decent-sized reinforced concrete dome
over the outlet...and pile tons of steel beams on top of it.

Any thought folks?
Sure, it might just slow the outflow of crude...but if the current
workers can’t find another way to stop/slow the flow...

I’m sure there are practical/physical reasons this is just my dumb musing.

Actually, there has been talk of putting a dome over it and capturing the oil from the dome.

Yes, that WOULD work - provided it weighed more than the wellhead pressure of the well could lift, and provided it got a good seal against the seabed floor. BUT - how high up from the seabed floor, if any, is the leak? It might need to be a TALL dome!
