Israel may need to cut a deal with Nicolas Sarkozy. He has a veto too, doesn't like Obama, would love to make France look important, and is having a lot of trouble with the “Youths” in France. He is also looking for a way to reboot his presidency, and this would be a way to shift local focus. Also getting a new outlet for French military equipment would be a big boost to his economy. The US sells a lot of equipment to Israel and with relations between Israel and the US on the rock it would be a great time for France to pick up the sales.

That would be full circle of history. France used to be Israel’s supplier and major ally and we used to be the neutral/slightly hostile country way back in the 50’s. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a frigate deal (at least) materialize sometime during Obama’s presidency.

Close - but Israel is more likely to cut a deal with Russia. Gazprom has been angling for a piece of the gas business there for a long time.
