Think Democrats always prefer internal politics; they're much more subject to internal manipulation since they own every institution. Foreign affairs is where they always have their heads handed to them. Of course the media distorts the internal population's perceptions of external events too, but they have a really hard time making glaring failures look like success. When Iran gets the bomb, and Hezbollah lights up their new SCUDs, the media will have a difficult task papering over that.

There is no leadership in leaking a memo. That’s the coward’s way if, indeed, Gates is unhappy with Obama’s policies. True leadership — true honor — would be if he stepped up to the plate and put his country ahead of his career. He should noisly resign and then go on every talking head show to tell the country specifically why he resigned.
