Threat of New, Larger Icelandic Eruption Looms
AP/FoxNews ^ | 4/20/10

Posted on 04/20/2010 12:41:55 PM PDT by Kartographer

For all the worldwide chaos that Iceland's volcano has already created, it may just be the opening act.

Scientists fear tremors at the Eyjafjallajokull volcano could trigger an even more dangerous eruption at the nearby Katla volcano — creating a worst-case scenario for the airline industry and travelers around the globe.

A Katla eruption would be 10 times stronger and shoot higher and larger plumes of ash into the air than its smaller neighbor, which has already brought European air travel to a standstill for five days and promises severe travel delays for days more.

I just hope it doesn’t awaken Yellowstone.

At least not until after August, I already have the trip booked.

As for the volcanoes in Iceland. Well I'm torn between the loss and destruction and the thought of seeing all of the tree hugging greens in Europe given the Pompeii treatment by the Earth that they pretend to worship. So how does a socialist utopia deal with a little pumice, lets find out.

I hope the eruptions keep getting bigger and the world can longer do international flights for years and all the microparticles floating in the air cut off all cell phone calls.

We raise cattle, we’ll just eat more meat, IF OF COURSE, we aren’t covered up with ash.

“Store food. Learn to garden. get\build a green house.”

To me this sounds a bit too paranoid. I haven’t seen anybody in Europe with the propensity to hoard loads of food. It’s a vulcano far away (maybe not far enough) but not a nuke that blew up the next larger city.

from what I have read, while the Katla eruption threat is very real (the 3 times in recorded history eyjafjallajokull erupted, katla followed), it seems like it could be months or longer away. That said, some katla eruptions have put enough ash in the air to alter growing seasons.

I propose that we rename Eyjafjallajokull, “Bob”, for efficiency’s sake!

In that case let's lay awake in fear at night and panic during the day, shall we?

You just named the Democrat strategy for 2010 & 2012....

Europe doesn’t do preparedness. They wait for us to bail them out.

Obama, why don’t you thumb your nose at God again. Then go to Iceland.

The only upside to this is that “Katla” is easier to pronounce and type than “Eyjafjallajokull.”

Another upside is a massive oil surplus shold hit the market and cause my pump prices to go down some in the future (if this keeps up). I have a friend in the aviation industry and he said they are down 500 million gallons of aviation fuel sales since this started.

Of course...that's a real drag on the world economy. If the big one goes...its even worse.

That’s simply wrong. At least the smarter europeans simply leave the country when things turn bad. Ever heard of the mayflower ?

As long as it doesn't interfere with my wireless broadband, fine! No 3G, no internet for me!! (And NO, no other service reaches me so don't ask!)

Speaking of that! The tourism business that is being nailed in Europe is all stuck in Dubai and they are making out like bandits. The hub for all of Europe from the Americas is there.

As we get closer and closer to 2012 and the alignment of the plane of our solar system with plane of the Milky Way Galaxy I expect more earth quakes as well as volcanic eruptions due to the increase of gravitational forces. Anything unstable and loose is liable to move. Needless to say I hope I am dead wrong…….
