Liberals are all too often eager to charge conservative personalities of using hyperbole to gain a political advantage, especially when it contradicts their world view - whether it's suggesting the Obama administration is taking the country down the path of socialism, fascism or any other -ism.
However, it could be argued there's a different set of standards for those same people when they want to make strong charges. On NBC's April 18 "The Chris Matthews Show," Time columnist Joe Klein all but accused former GOP vice-presidential nominee and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, along with Fox News host Glenn Beck of sedition.
"I did a little bit of research just before this show - it's on this little napkin here. I looked up the definition of sedition which is conduct or language inciting rebellion against the authority of the state. And a lot of these statements, especially the ones coming from people like Glenn Beck and to a certain extent Sarah Palin, rub right up close to being seditious."

“Thems scared.”
Yes, and is showing more and more every day; since they don’t have a coherent argument, all they can do is, well, what they always do!!!
I’m just curious here...but where exactly is this sedition business laid out? I noticed we had a sedition act after 1776 and within twenty years....it was yanked out because people abused it. I also noticed that we had an act while Wilson was president, and then it was abused, so we yanked it again.
So where exactly is the act? I’m pretty sure it’s not in the constitution. Klein probably hasn’t read it since high school (when it was mandatory).
The nifty thing about sedition is that you could accuse anyone, at anytime....of being a problem, and shut them down. The other nifty thing is that you could even accuse the President of a violation of the sedition act...and probably even put him in a bind. That’s why sedition is never a lasting law.
Back then, dissent was patriotic, but it was for the most part dissent against the Constitution. Today, the dissent is in support of restoring the Constitution and against a usurper. Apparently, the distinction makes this sedition.
Is the NYT still in business? If so, you still got a nipple to suck on Pinch.

Never forget, under the veneer, that's who this garbage is.
Klein is out right lying or is simply too stupid to know better.
Gov. Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck are not inciting "rebellion" against the authority of the state, they are motivating people to get involved politically and vote to change the authority controlling the state.
Nevermind what our Dear Leader is committing against our Constitution.
Life sucks as a liberal, doesn’t it, Joe? Well get used to it because come November we are going to put a solid stop to all this BS. You think life is bad now? Your sorry excuse for a president is going to be the lamest duck you ever saw.
amazing..... lefto-scum like Klein have long since made it impossible to prosecute real cases of actual TREASON, yet now they want to promote their vague mumblings about “sedition” against critics of the socialist take-over.....
a hint, Mr. Klein: why don’t focus upon all the actual TRAITORS among your Obama leftists before you even dare to discuss the concept of sedition?
Funny, Klein never did care to look up the definition of “sedition” during the Bush administration.
Still publishing? Not really. I picked up a copy in the waiting room at my MD’s office several months ago, and I wondered where the other 3/4ths had gone as I lifted it from the table. It’s nothing. Physically and as to journalistic content.
Would that be the same U.S. Government with an unqualified illegal ineligible unConstitutional usurper sitting in the Oval Office dictating self-serving executive orders to consolidate his hold on political power????
To paraphrase Patrick Henry (you remember him? “Give me liberty or give me death?”) “If this be treason,’ Henry famously replied, ‘make the most of it.’” We’re in pretty good company, boys!
Well, how about Pelosi? Or maybe that commie freak from Washington State going over to Iraq to cause trouble? Or how about Jon Cary?
Need I go on?
The treason is coming from the sycophantic fifth column enemy of We The People, the whoredom of the PRESS! ... And still no one is building the needed guillotines.
Yates v. United States (1957) - No problem with “seditious” speech - protected free speech. Only speech attached to specific seditious activity is problematic. Rush, Sarah, Glenn, all safe for now. Irony is, the cases Klein relies on for felony status revolved around communists.
Exactly. What about Cindy Sheehan? What about Sean Penn? What about Jane Fonda? What about John Kerry? What about all the crap uttered by Olberjerk?
I’M SPARTACUS!
