IF there is ash in the stratosphere, there will be global cooling caused by the incident solar radiation being scattered from ash.

I was referring to the short term affects in the atmosphere. If these clouds hang around for several weeks and get pushed N.S.E & W around the globe.

Not just ash. The volcano is spewing large amounts of sulfur dioxide which will stay in the upper atmosphere for years and cause some cooling. Since this is adding on to an already cooling phase of climate, with a low solar activity cycle if the eruption lasts long enough this could get very interesting...
