Dear President Obama:
I write today as a proud American and a proud Jew.
Jews around the world are concerned today. We are concerned about the nuclear ambitions of an Iranian regime that brags about its genocidal intentions against Israel. We are concerned that the Jewish state is being isolated and delegitimized.
Mr. President, we are concerned about the dramatic deterioration of diplomatic relations between the United States and Israel.
The Israeli housing bureaucracy made a poorly timed announcement and your Administration branded it an insult. This diplomatic faux pas was over the fourth stage of a seven stage planning permission process a plan to build homes years from now in a Jewish area of Jerusalem that under any peace agreement would remain an integral part of Israel.
Our concern grows to alarm as we consider some disturbing questions. Why does the thrust of this Administrations Middle East rhetoric seem to blame Israel for the lack of movement on peace talks? After all, it is the Palestinians, not Israel, who refuse to negotiate.
Israel has made unprecedented concessions. It has enacted the most far reaching West Bank settlement moratorium in Israeli history.
Israel has publicly declared support for a two-state solution. Conversely, many Palestinians continue their refusal to even acknowledge Israels right to exist.
The conflicts root cause has always been the Palestinian refusal to accept Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people. Every American President who has tried to broker a peace agreement has collided with that Palestinian intransigence, sooner or later. Recall President Clintons anguish when his peace proposals were bluntly rejected by the Palestinians in 2000. Settlements were not the key issue then.
They are not the key issue now.
Another important question is this: what is the Administrations position on Israels borders in any final status agreement? Ambiguity on this matter has provoked a wave of rumors and anxiety. Can it be true that America is no longer committed to a final status agreement that provides defensible borders for Israel? Is a new course being charted that would leave Israel with the indefensible borders that invited invasion prior to 1967?
There are significant moves from the Palestinian side to use those indefensible borders as the basis for a future unilateral declaration of independence. How would the United States respond to such a reckless course of action?
And what are Americas strategic ambitions in the broader Middle East? The Administrations desire to improve relations with the Muslim world is well known. But is friction with Israel part of this new strategy? Is it assumed worsening relations with Israel can improve relations with Muslims? History is clear on the matter: appeasement does not work. It can achieve the opposite of what is intended.
And what about the most dangerous player in the region? Shouldnt the United States remain focused on the single biggest threat that confronts the world today? That threat is a nuclear armed Iran. Israel is not only Americas closest ally in the Middle East, it is the one most committed to this Administrations declared aim of ensuring Iran does not get nuclear weapons.
Mr. President, we embrace your sincerity in your quest to seek a lasting peace. But we urge you to take into consideration the concerns expressed above. Our great country and the tiny State of Israel have long shared the core values of freedom and democracy. It is a bond much treasured by the Jewish people. In that spirit I submit, most respectfully, that it is time to end our public feud with Israel and to confront the real challenges that we face together.
Yours sincerely,
Ronald S. Lauder
President
World Jewish Congress
oops! BTW....you wouldnt happen to have any little goy blood for my matza would you? I'm fresh out.....
It's ironic, I've been attacked here as a communist, a Christian hater, even a Nazi and Jewhater when the morons don't agree. Lauder, the conservative alternative to Giuliani in the late 80s, probably the Jews rejected him, gets bashed, Mort Klein gets bashed, I won't get into columnists like Krauthammer or the many neocons. Then the same morons wander to another thread and wonder, why don't they love us. I can't imagine.
Personally I think the Mussolini think is pure bullshit. Like the Jews voted for Hitler crap. You're welcome to provide legitimate sources for either. But in a time when there was no modern media, decades before anyone thought of exit polls, which still can't measure Jewish voting in places like Illinois or California, well, to suggest that there are reliable statistics about 0.1% of the population in Italy, I don't believe it. Same goes for the 0.7% of 0.8% in Germany, contradicted by the fact that between 60% and 70% of Germany's Jews fled the country. This tiny, intelligent, world controling minority votes Hitler in, then flees. Yeah, I believe that, just as I do they voted in Mussolini. If you're into religion, Christians did it. Like they elected Obama.
As to your opinion of me as an unsharp Jew voter, do you think I care about your opinion? I'm not welcome in your political world, that's fine with me, I'm quite aware of the bigotry on both sides of the political spectrum. You're more than welcome to reject the stupid Jews from your political movement. Whether you're a bigot or not, I haven't a clue. I only note that in the event you're not sharp enought to understand what I'm saying.
YOU, the Jews in this Country voted this schmuck in the Oval Office, lock, stock and barrel drulling allover your selves, holding your hands and singing Kumbayah when he was elected.
If you do not like it, the Complaint Dept. is on the second floor, or next election cycle you get your head out of your ass and vote with your brain(if you have any) not with your feet.
At this point I do not give a rats ass what happend to Israel. If their own quasy Jews do not give a crap about their own heimatland, why should I do. I have no vested Interest in that region anyways. Maybe we should focus more on Iraq, to somewhat keep an eye on the Middle East affairs.
I'm just a dumbass, I'll accept that. Your statement that Republicans have always been supporters of Israel, the implication that Democrats haven't, betrays your ignorance. Bush I certainly wasn't, though he might look that was compared to the short lived Ford. Ike, he had his reasons for supporting the Arabs and demanding the return of the Sinai and the Suez Canal. He wasn't hostile to Israel, as he and Nixon, a real friend, realized, they made a mistake. I think Reagan was almost as fond of Israel as GWB, but he tried to force a solution, like Obama. Realized his mistake quickly. And GWB, imo personally the most supportive of Israel, did great damage. By calling for a palestinian state, the first American President to do so, by demanding a corridor from Gaza to the West Bank carved out of Israel, and by violating the Oslo Accords to which the United States is a signatory and creating a palestinian military force. Under General Jones. Who now serves Obama.
But I know, us Jews are just a bunch of dummise, we vote enemies into power, doing that for centuries.
You should be ashamed. Nice pro-Muslim rant.
Works for me. I look to you for nothing. Danmar, honestly, i can't imagine why any Jew wouldn't to you, and your political ilk, for voting advice.
No, not promuslim, just the conservative element that doesn't much like Jews
I’m saving some up for Purim, if you need any let me know.
Any rational poster with minimal knowledge, or the ability to google knows that. He's a Jew, that's the issue.
Ok, blacks and Jews are equally guilty for whatever sin you perceive.
What are you going to do about it?
Everybody should take a moment to read through the responses on this thread, and observe what is going on here. It is instructive. Lesson one: Don't try and pigeonhole Jewish Republicans with contemporary liberal Jewry in America [especially long-term registered FReepers]. It only annoys them and makes you look stupid.
Pay attention to Yehuda's comments. He makes some points you need to take with you.
Always a pleasure, Yehuda.

How you have managed to not be banned from FR after being registered so long and posting crap like that is incredible. It is ignorant content like that that embarrasses Free Republic in the eyes of our enemies.
The anti-Semitic trolls are out in force today.
zot
Indeed!
The undercurrent is pro-Muslim even if it is subconscious. Which Muslim would object to what he said?
Some people are just naturally easy to be deceived, in ALL the voting groups.. regardless of their race or affiliations. Many will vote their “block” despite the facts presented. That goes for blacks, Jews, Latinos, etc.
However, Jewish people I do give more sway for voting wrong even though it enrages me some cannot or will not see the facts of those they vote for.. My position comes from the facts scripture presents...which I will not get into on this thread. But I also rejoice for the Jewish people who do see, and can discern, thinking for themselves. I think we have them right here on Free Republic.
One of my Jewish friends and her husband will always vote for the candidate that their union votes for... It isn't about their race it's about their union membership. I see that as foolish but you will never sway them.
