An apt comparison. More than anyone else, he reminds me of Mussolini, right down to that upturned jaw and downturned mouth.
I agree with you. Maybe he’ll end up the same.
I agree completely...there are many parallels:
- The March on Rome (’Yes, We Can’ speech)
- MVSN and OVRA (civilian national security force)
- Abolishment of local autonomy (governor’s council)
- “Battle for Grain” which pushed Italy further into debt (stimulus)
- Government control of business (Chrysler, GM, banks)
- Propaganda in press, radio, education, films
- Secret press certificates (unknown, but possible)
- Spending money on public works
- Creation of national youth organizations (City Year?)
- Initial pacifism/anti-war mentality in foreign policy
- Use of national Education deputy for indoctrination at the local level
- Opposed to Catholicism/Christianity in private, yet tried to appease the faithful by appearing to be a Catholic in public (yet irreligious)
- Preferred Islam over Christianity as a philosophy
- Felt himself above attending church as an anti-cleric
