As sad as it is to see the criminal acts— and the criminal covering up that a few in leadership positions did, I am still very happy and thankful to be Catholic. The acts of a small percentage of sinful men have nothing to do with the truth and worth of the Eucharist. The sacraments and my journey to Heaven are all that really matter.
I could never let the actions of criminals and idiots drive me away from Christ’s Church. Peter himself was a fool, a coward, and a denier at times; yet the other Apostles hung in there and continued to accept him as their leader. Even John, who stood alone without any of the other Apostles at the desolate foot of the cross, was back with the others by Pentecost. It must have been hard for him, having heard Peter deny Christ and having seen Peter run away when Christ needed him most. But John persevered. He remembered Christ’s words about love and forgiveness and redemption.
It’s up to the cops to handle this, first of all. Second, any internal action at the parishes is handled by the bishops, not the pope. Third, the left is notorious for being soft on child-molesters but, oh, let any religious organization (except muzzies, of course, and Black Liberation Theology) become embroiled in a scandal of a sexual nature, and it’s the end of the world.
Gross hypocrisy from them and many FReepers.
Sad.
......”I could never let the actions of criminals and idiots drive me away from Christs Church”.....
You might think differently if you had children abused in the one you were attending. I surely would get my kids out of there in a heart beat because Christ has many churches that are His and adhere to His plans. I would find as safe a place as I knew to be....at the very least.
We have a responsibility for our children beyond that of which church we attend. I might also say if it was a Protestant church I would also leave to protect my child...we do not sacrifice the safety of children on the alter of any church.
