We have seen the government move further and further away from the Constitution for years and we have said nothing. Not only has the Constitution been diluted it has been molded to suit whatever the needs at the moment. Would anyone be surprised that the powers that be would feel very secure in putting up a candidate who is not a NBC? His mom was a citizen, in their minds that is enough.

I’m not sure I can explain this right but, I am sure defining NBC as two citizen parents would not only make Obama ineligible but it would effect so many citizens as well. Not as far as being President but their feelings of being NBC. I have seen it on these threads before, people who claim dual citizenship or their kids are dual citizens and they believe that they are NBC....the law is fine as long as it does not apply to them! God forbid people get upset! Just like we won’t enforce immigration laws, don’t want to upset anyone! Too much of a hassle!

The only jobs for which one must be a natural born citizen are president and vice president. We will find out if our judicial system still respects the Constitution. It is clear that they have been in no hurry to take on this explosive issue. For what it is worth this is one of the few domains of the law in which the supreme court has original jurisdiction, meaning it is not constrained to be the final appeals court for matters which directly involve constitutional interpretation.

It is clear that Justice Ginsberg needs to do some legal research judging by her comments about natural born citizenship in a recent case (she was surprised to learn that her grandchildren born in France would not be eligible to run for president). I hope all the justices are taking the time to read Mario Apuzzo and Leo Donofrio essays, and the wonderful work by U. of Conn law students at http://undeadrevolution.wordpress.com about the intent of our framers, and their legal analysis of the cases through 1936, Perkins v. Elg, which ALL confirm the Vattel definition.
