Why is that? What is the significance of red shirts? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL!
Original Star Trek. They guys wearing red shirts were always the ones who died while Kirk was scoring with the chicks.
In the original series of Star Trek, the different colors for the uniforms signified what your job area was. Gold was the command uniform, blue was the science uniform, and red was engineering and security.
When ever an away team beamed down to a planet, it would generally be Captain Kirk, Commander Spock, Doctor McCoy, and one or two random security officers. They became known as "red shirts" since they didn't often have a name attached to them.
Red shirts often didn't survive the trip to the planet.
For those not in the know: Red shirts are a reference to the original Star Trek series. Many episodes included a random crew member wearing a red uniform shirt. This crew member would usually die or meet some horrible fate. The red shirt seemed to signal their impending doom.
