To: Red in Blue PA

If i were preparing, I’d probably be preparing for a shorter-term difficulty. My thought was to have a 1-year supply of food, mostly normal items that are packed to last a year, on monthly shelves, and cycle through them each year.

Essentially, you’d have spent ahead 1 year’s worth of groceries, so not only would your storehouse be good for a catastrophe, but if you lost your job it would also be like your short-term stash to get you to your next job (at which time you’d have to re-stock).

But I’m not paranoid enough yet to actually implement this, except I have apparently got the short-term storage down, in the form of fat — I figure I’d last a few months before I needed a serious amount of food. :-)

HA....I started buying on Nov 5, 2008.....figure I have at least a year’s worth of canned/pkgd goods....and other things that might be worth some MONEY for me in trading.
