And if you’re so keen on the idea, why not give up your pay for a month or two?

Because I have options that the skills I possess give me. Skills that were partially gained long ago at an unpaid internship; an internship that turned out not to be unpaid at all.

Yes, but every day you learn something new and thus gain new experience at work. Why should the company *PAY* you as well. Learning should be enough for you.

(or so the argument goes for unpaid internships)

It suddenly becomes a lot less palatable when it's your livelihood on the line.
