“I am sick of “Noble People working for a Noble Cause” on the backs of the not so “Noble” Taxpayers.”

I don’t see the “Noble doctors” donating their “Noble paychecks, or even their “Noble time” do you?

Strategic placement of the United States on the high frontier is critical to our nations future existance as a global power.

***The nations that lead on the frontiers, dictate the course of human history.***

That is not noble, or un-noble. It simply is.
China will be happy to do so.

We are either in that game, or out of it and down for the count.

NASA human spaceflight keeps us in the game, proper funding keeps us ahead.

“Strategic placement of the United States on the high frontier is critical to our nations future existance as a global power.”

Oh Pajamas,

Different theme on the same lines of “ for the Children” “if it saves one life”.

NASA has sat down with the Defense Science Committe when? They then addressed the specific areas of scientific and technological advancement the US needs to maintain a credible and effective defense where? Then designed the NASA Space program around that goal?

Horse Crap..

Profligate spending is a Public Sector social disease.

NASA has the same clown spendthrift mentality running it today as the Military or todays “Social Services”.

It origins in the same gold plated mentality that builds 20 B2 Stealth Bombers at a billion dollars a piece.

Then looking for an application to justify the expenditure flies them 13,500 miles around the world to bomb a few 7th Century Mud Hut and Cave dwellers in Afganistan for whom an advanced air defense Grid consists of a Mosquito net over their straw mat.

NASA continueing to spend a fortune today to fly a few humans into space is on a par.

There was a time when doing so was at least politically in our interest.. That time has past.

Without fiscal responsibility our NASA endeavors will only help to sink the US Financially. We certainly will not be able to take any action based upon our findings. Unless we change or “leaders” spendthrift ways we will lack the resources to do so.

That will leave us an impoverished third rate power with no effective defense.

No disrespect, but far too many professional people I respect with deep experience in aerospace matters disagree with you.

I choose to agree with them over you because they have far more convincing arguments.

Your view is one of extremely limited government, and I suspect that it rejects nearly all things under the federal banner. Libertarian perhaps?

Fine! Great! Now find a way to pay for all your Champaigne Dreams on a Beer budget without taking it from working American’s Pockets.

The security of our nation is at risk due to the Profilgate spending and largess of our elected and appointed leaders.

Wake up, smell the coffee..

We teeter on the Brink of an abyss..

We are all in this and your NASA Wiz Folks had better come up with some profitable and immediately benificial results of their work as well as ways to voluntarily reduce their budget.. Lets see them do it in advance otherwise they clearly do not give a rip about the nation anymore than the Demon-Crats and Republi-Cons and decerve to be gutted.

NASA
DOD
HHS
DOE
DOE

Everyone.

You’ve got some serious tunnel vision there, and I can see there isn’t much chance of getting through, all things are not politics, there IS a bigger picture to consider, and profit is not exclusively defined by dollar signs.

Ignoring that bigger picture and turning our backs on exploration as a nation IS the ultimate abyss.

I’ll leave you with this.........

Jacques Cousteau, the world famous ocean explorer, spoke of his own experience of exploring the waters off Crete, site of the ancient Minoan civilization. He and his crew were not after resources, but knowledge of a little-known civilization. “Why would we spend one full year of our lives and over $2 million just to raise a tiny corner of the veil concealing a few episodes of our past,” Cousteau asked rhetorically.

“What is the origin of the devouring curiosity that drives men to commit their lives, their health, their reputation, their fortunes, to conquer a bit of knowledge, to stretch our physical, emotional or intellectual territory? The more I spend time observing nature, the more I believe that man’s motivation for exploration is but the sophistication of a universal instinctive drive deeply ingrained in all living creatures. Life is growth — individuals and species grow in size, in number, and in territory. The peripheral manifestation of growing is exploring the outside world.”

Summarizing his remarks, Cousteau wrote “the exploration drive, pure and natural, is associated with risk, freedom, initiative, and lateral thinking,” by which he meant non-deductive reasoning that allows the mind to investigate apparently uncorrelated events and sometime find correlations. “The enemies of the exploration spirit are mainly the sense of security and responsibility, red tape, and exclusive vertical thinking,” by which he meant deductive thinking that does not also allow one to explore unusual pathways, whether physical or intellectual.

Cousteau

Nice Quote..

Their Lives... Their Health, Their Reputation and

THEIR FORTUNES

Not others. Certainly not monies taken by Governments in the form of Taxation by the threat or fear of force or violence.

No one says the American People at least people like myself are unwilling to help and assist in bigger projects than we can take on as individuals or have expertise in. Those that agree with my point are simply asking that those on the Government dole related to scientific inquiry make a legitimate and substantial effort to reduce expenditures and increase the immediate value of their efforts in what ever field.

If and when we have our national debt paid and our economy is back on it's feet I think we will all support more esoteric endeavors..

Better an austere budget than no budget in the future at all.

your obsessed with cost of NASA!!?
a half a penny on the dollar?

When it assures our place in the future as a nation, perhaps even as a species!

The cost of not properly funding such things is far greater, far greater sir, far greater.

Again, you need to widen your vision, or remain in that closed room.

Fortunes are not always defined by dollar signs.

The fortune of our nation to have say in the course of human history is immeasurable in monetary value.

This finanacial crisis will end sooner or later, but if we stop exploring, were over. history proves this again and again. The nations that expand, explore, innovate and push back the unknown in all ways will endure.

Those that don’t?

Fade away.

I truly am at a loss, you just don’t get it..

When a ship is sinking all who can must bail.

Continued spending unchecked no matter how noble the cause will not only sink the ship of state, but it will lead to tyranny.. Already that foul creature skulks about our nation.

I am not saying eliminate NASA I am saying sit down with the Defense Science Committee and hammer out some mutual objectives that both provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare. Then set about improving the economy and lives of everyday Americans..

Now it is not just NASA, the DOD has been the second most wasteful spender in the Nation (social services is first I believe)..

Like spoiled little boys the Flag Officers only want the newest gizmo out there. It does not matter if they have a perfectly serviceable platform.. (Such as M113s APCs and the M60, M48 series Tank Platforms) Even though the Israelis after sleight modifications use them successfully everyday against a similar foe and threats. That is just not good enough..

NASA’s budget alone is not the point.

People can see it in your response.. No offer to compromise.. no willingness to accept that some level of serious cuts and redirection makes sense in these troubled times.

If we cannot get such a reasonable consession from a NASA Supporter in a discussion forum... How will we ever make progress in actual discussions of budget and priorities..

If people like yourself are unmoved by reasonable arguments.

We won’t make progress. We will only be pulled along kicking and screaming while the nation falls into bankruptcy and Tyranny takes hold.

I am also truly at a loss.
You just don’t get it and you totally blow off the wisdome of experts for your own analysis. Based on what experience I have no idea.

My compromise would have been to leave NASA alone and let it make slow progress rather then NONE at all.

I am ashamed that some fellow Americans are foolish enough to turn their backs on the pioneering spirit that built this nation.

That path leads to stagnation and death for America.

No thanks.

But if you want to champion Obama’s NASA plans..

well be my guest to share views with that deconstructor of America.
