BUENOS AIRES, - Argentina marked the anniversary of the 1982 Falklands war with a parade, and the country's president says Britain should turn over the islands .
Argentina invaded the Falklands, claiming they were part of its sovereign territory, but a British counter-invasion defeated the Argentines, who lost 904 lives.
President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner delivered a national address on the anniversary Friday from Ushuaia, which was the hub of the Argentine military operations during the 1982 conflict, The Times of London reported. Under Argentine law it is the capital of the region that encompasses the islands, which Argentina calls the Malvinas, which lie some 340 miles out to sea.
Kirchner said Britain's claim of "sovereignty from a distance of 14,000 kilometers (about 8,700 miles) is not sustainable, neither historically, nor legally, nor geographically -- but, above all, it is not sustainable logically," The Times reported.
She added: "It's not an exercise of sovereignty but rather colonialism and probably the last such one. The question of the Malvinas is a stain that should be rubbed out."
After she spoke, war veterans held a march in Buenos Aires shouting, "Give us back our islands!" and "Out with the pirates!".
Hundreds of veterans and militant political groups gathered in the Buenos Aires banging drums and carrying sticks, finally converging on the British Embassy. Riot police were deployed to control them, The Times said.

(That’s ugly.)
I wouldn’t trust her OR the ass she rode in on!!
thats the correct answer. self-determination. let the people on the island decide
I think it is time for an alliance of former American allies - starting with Britain and Israel. They could sure help each other with intelligence, technology and resources. They should also see what they could do with India. Since Obama wants a multipolar world, democracies need to band together to protect themselves from dictators and wanna be dictators.
Yeah, but this time the Argies are betting Obama’s loyalties will lie more with a fellow socialist government and he will support Argentina rather than Britain, and we will refuse to support Britain despite all they have done for us in the War on Terror.
Socialists do a lot of talking about “colonialism” but
they never talk about “Socialist colonialism” they’re
funny that way.
Any way what is the matter with these people , they’re just
like the palestinians and arabs, “We invade, you kick us out
and kick our ass but now we claim what we didn’t have in
the first place?”.
“I love the way you talk, uh huh, uh huh...” (Sling Blade)
that’s about thirty years old. ;)
He is still waiting though, he enjoys it too much :)
How much of a loser country do you have to be to have parades to commemorate a humiliating defeat at the hands of a shriveling empire?
I do fear, however, that they will soon be trying again, and we don't have Reagan in DC and Thatcher in London these days. I predict the US will get involved in another Falklands battle, if it happens in the first lace, only it will be in support of the Argies. As in Honduras.
Argentinian President Cristina Kirchner = COUGAR...
Beautiful song from a very understated album.
Barack has to shave?
Earlier today I read, in an article linked from another FR thread, that recently, Hitlery opened her mouth up to the Brits about this. She was espousing what we’d consider an unpopular and untenable position, although it wasn’t widely reported in our lamestream media.
I like Argentina.
Then the Brits pull out of Af-Pak war and O and the USA is left holding the bag.
If O sided with Argentina and not the Brits it game over for the Dems. O would be maybe a one termer. The same can be said of Israel O and Hill are playing with fire.
Britain (not England btw) still has a navy.
Britain did not rely on the American supplies in 1982. They were appreciated but a small fraction of supplies and arms used.
Britain also has a large garrison that would cut an invasion to ribbons on the beach.
You need to get your history straight. He didn't help. In fact, the Reagan Administratrion opposed Thatcher's invasion of the Falklands. See:

(And I remember all too well how disappointed many of us Reagan supporters were at the time.)
