Not only are the “compassionate conservatives” an extreme minority, the are usually not fundamentalist Christians, but what are members of what they call “mainstream churches” that are more or less using Christianity to justify their political beliefs.

I would agree, they are usually those who believe in a "Social" gospel which is really just Communism-Lite.

I've seen similiar comments by Libertarians on FreeRepublic.

Either they are woefully uninformed, or as I suspect, just the habit of distorting reality to support their position.
