Elect more nonconforming libertarian-Republicans
Renew America ^ | 2010-04-03 | Bonnie Alba

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism." — Ronald Reagan

Nonconformist: of or characterized by behavior or views that do not conform to prevailing ideas or practices.

Recently Fox's Glenn Beck offered citizens a quiz to pinpoint where they fall in their political beliefs. The Nolan Chart (www.nolanchart.com/survey.php) provides questions which when answered honestly will place the responder somewhere on the political spectrum depicting conservative-libertarian-liberal-statist-centrist sections. Citizens who consider themselves conservative might be surprised to find they're somewhere between conservative and libertarian.

Commentators have had a difficult time labeling tea party citizens. Many are disillusioned democrats and republicans; some call themselves independents. Most have been active voters for decades. After all the emailing, letters and sending pink slips to Congress; after marching on Washington — citizen-protestors are still not taken very seriously in Washington.

Some commentators have suggested that Republican-Libertarian Rep. Ron Paul is responsible for the grassroots Tea Party movement rising up against the present Washington chaos. The truth is Paul's 2008 presidential campaign ignited long-held frustrations and also educated some of the younger generation regarding constitutional principles.

Considered a "kook" by many of his congressional peers, Paul may be the only sane one there. This is the man who just returned $100,000 of his congressional budget back to the U.S. Treasury. His congressional frugality borders on treason within free-spending Congress. Nicknamed "Dr. No" because of his thriftiness, he votes no to any legislation unless it adheres to the Constitution.

So is Paul crazy? Of course not. He's much like all citizens who are conscientiously watching their money and budgets. Regrettably there aren't enough libertarian-doers in Congress who would stop the decades of runaway-spending and cut the government down to constitutional size.

There are signs that some Libertarian-thinking citizens are running on 2010 Republican congressional tickets. These are the same people along with constitutionalists who have suffered through the frustrations of watching Washington unabashedly kill the U.S. Constitution.

One such citizen is Liberty Republican John Dennis (www.johndennis2010.com) who is running against Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco's 8th District. On congressional leaders, Dennis says:

"I think of them as far away from leadership as anything I can imagine. We are in debt ...when you add up the current debt, the unfunded liabilities, the backstops to banks, loans, all the bailouts — our quote-unquote leaders have put us all in debt to the tune of $300,000 apiece. That's not leadership. Many have the nerve to call themselves conservatives but are they really at the end of the day? — 94 percent of the house members are reelected, continually with the idea of keeping their jobs."

Reagan also said, "The federal government has taken too much tax money from the people, too much authority from the states, and too much liberty with the Constitution."

Ronald Reagan was right in his assessment of conservatism's heart. So, why do we not elect more of these sane budget-conscious thinkers to Congress? If it is conservative to hold to principles concerning budgets, reducing the National Debt, taxes and holding government to constitutional restraints, why hasn't it happened?

Most tea party citizens have long been exasperated by the federal government's "broad-constructionist" interpretation of the U.S. Constitution which has led to a distinct decline of our Republic and Civil Liberties. In case you don't know what kind of interpretation that is — think Al Gore's declaration that "the U.S. Constitution is a living document." In other words, it changes with the seasons.

The founders' constitutional intent is never taken into account by such interpretation. Otherwise, we would never have had social security, medicare, medicaid, subsidies for farmers and businesses — growing the federal government far beyond its constitutional responsibilities.

Maybe it's time that libertarian thinkers have the opportunity to turn our nation around and bring down the National Debt before bankruptcy and a real Great Depression become reality. They certainly couldn't do any worse than what we've been subjected to for the last 100 years. Let's hope it's not too late.

Given a choice, the elite Washington free-spending crowd or the nonconforming Libertarian-Republicans, citizens may just choose the ones who adhere to the U.S. Constitution over and against the careerist so-called conservative Republicans and liberal-progressive Democrats.

Of course, it was a hit and run.
Rabster has “moved on.”

They only attack, because they can’t DEFEND.

What??? You don't think that calling me a "Bushbot" was a defense of conservative principles?

I'm shocked, I tell ya. Shocked! ;*)

a bunch of intercine muslim religious nutcases who were doing a pretty good job of offing themselves and who could care less about freedom to begin with.

that's the other thing about Paul followers, they are decidedly non-compassionate and borderline racist.

It’s not infighting in their view. Ron Paul is a RINO:
Republican In Name Only.

Dump him. He is actually a cranky Bircher.
The coward should be forced to run under the Libertarian party.

“One thing I know for sure though, rab, son. YOU are not a Christian conservative.”

One thing *I* know for sure, and that is that Almighty God alone knows what is in each person's heart. One day when his mortal journey is over, Rabs will stand before King Jesus, and King Jesus alone, not any one of us.

Happy Easter.

that many of his followers are 9/11 truthers is undisputed

that many of his followers are UFO believers is undisputed

that Ron Paul endorsed a TRAITOR Adam Kokesh is undisputed

so, next time, read.

I actually have greater doubts about the conservative part, mk.

I make no pretense at judging the poor boy's soul. I pray he knows the Lord.

btw, my daughter, who is roughly your age is not, like you are, sitting in her parents' basement calling people names and thinking that's making a difference in the world.

She's overseas freeing slaves.

I'll never call you "daughter" either. It's far too great a compliment for your very bad behavior.

I actually have greater doubts about the conservative part, mk.

Well it has been my observation for a while now that it doesn't matter what the article is, or what the post is about, if Rabs makes it, it inevitably becomes not a discussion on whatever it is he has to say, but it becomes a referendum on Rabs. That's my take on it anyway. Rabs' disdain for Juan McAmnesty knows no bounds, and apparently he is in good company because JimRob despises McCain like a Baptist hates original sin, and I think that's a good thing. I don't agree with Rabs on every issue, in fact I don't agree with everyone on every issue and I doubt that anyone does. But let's consider a hypothetical question in light of Rabs favorable outlook regarding Ron Paul:

IF, through some crazy twist of fate, Ron Paul ended up being the GOP nominee in 2012, and actually went on the warpath against 0bama, making a pretty good showing for himself, how many of us would pull the lever for the GOP ticket?

I make no pretense at judging the poor boy's soul. I pray he knows the Lord.

C'mon now, "poor boy"? That isn't necessary is it?

Based on my own conversations with Rabs, I think he is on pretty sound spiritual footing, and if he chooses to let his religious beliefs become a topic of discussion, that is entirely up to him.

Happy Easter to you and yours.

The left’s attack on America continues, libertarianism and liberalism of the last 70 plus years is what got us here. The Earl Warren court created many “libertarian” victories that we will never recover from.

Amazing.

I guess none of you libertarian bashers agree with anything Milton Friedman, Tom Sowell, Walter Williams or the Cato Institute has written in 70 years. Something tells me that few of you have the slightest idea of what you are talking about and are more interested in driving a wedge into the conservative movement than getting rid of the Marxist in Chief. Perfect! Just what we need now.

I know I'll just be inciting flames from you but, for the record, "libertarian" is a very loosely defined word and includes people who are fundamentalist Christians, pro-lifers and pro-national defense individuals as well as people who are really Marxists who hide behind the libertarian label just like they used to hide behind the liberal label.

The movement grew, in large part, out of the Goldwater campaign but more influenced by Ayn Rand than Bill Buckley. Although, Rand despised libertarians because of their hodgepodge melding of philosophies that included Christians, old-guard conservatives, anarchists etc. The only thing they had in common was the goal of reducing the size of government. In dispute was merely the amount of reduction.

That there are crack-pots or strays, such as Paul, has nothing to do with the fact that there are also people indistinguishable from Christian Conservatives. But, perhaps those of you who insist that only Christians may call themselves conservative may want to put a finer point on it and pick a denomination. Perhaps Papists and Presbyterians should not apply.

I suggest we can fight with each other after we throw out the Marxists, not before. But maybe your real goal is to let the Marxists win. At least that will be the result of your indiscriminate vitriol.

You people dissapoint me more than Obama voters do. At least they have an excuse. They are mind-numbed-drones.

Thank you very much, and not wanting to seem too irreverent on the most Reverent date in our Christian faith, I did hear an amusing story perhaps you might get a chuckle out of...

A Sunday School teacher says to his class of kids, “Now before we celebrate Easter, we observe Good Friday, can anyone tell us WHY we call it ‘Good Friday’?

Little Johnny (who else? lol) says “I dunno teach, it wasn’t very good for Jesus, they went and KILLED him!”

The teacher said “That is very true Johnny, but when Jesus gave His Life for us, it meant that He took on the suffering for our sins, for YOUR sins, so that we wouldn’t have to suffer for them ourselves...”

Johnny: “I guess my Dad didn’t get the memo, he beat my tail last night!”

Again, Happy Easter. ;)

I was discussing the issue and the thread until rabs busted in for the sole purpose of insulting me. He's done that multiple times on multiple threads, and at one time was quite vulgar in his insult (no.....VERY vulgar).

I have NO respect for him any more whatsoever, and that is based entirely on his very bad behavior on this forum. ALWAYS unprovoked on my part.

He has obviously done that to others, and therefore, IMO, deserves what he gets. He has an MO that is unpleasant, and notably UNconservative.

As I said, I'm not judging his soul. I just don't believe he's either a conservative, or a person of courage and character.

And HE will have to change that opinion by changing his behavior, and though I appreciate your effort to defend him, he needs to learn to be his own man.
