(LAS VEGAS) Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada canceled giving his testimony at an LDS fireside last Sunday night because of angry calls, e-mails and even threats. The Democratic Senator is a member of the LDS Church and was invited to offer remarks at an LDS fireside at the Tule Springs Stake in Las Vegas. The fireside on Why I Believe was canceled after the threats were made. His press secretary said there were no threats of violence initiated against Reid but he canceled because of the threats against his invitation to speak. Sen. Reid received a warm welcome at BYU in October, 2007 and stands firm on his religious and political views. Reid has become a lightening rod in partisan bickering and faces defeat in his home state of Nevada in the upcoming November election. BYU political science professor Kelly Patterson says Reid hasnt changed his position for years. UVU Professor Boyd Peterson is a Democrat and teaches Mormon literature at the university and says several Church leaders are Democrats. Some have asked if LDS Church leaders will speak about politics and civility at this weekends conference but no official statement has been issued.
Who would even know if Harry Reid was speaking at an LDS fireside except fellow Mormons?
From the article: Sen. Reid received a warm welcome at BYU in October, 2007...
Why did BYU do an all-student, all-faculty rally to host Reid, including many who gave him a standing ovation?
From the article: UVU Professor Boyd Peterson is a Democrat and teaches Mormon literature at the university and says several Church leaders are Democrats.
(Yeah. We know.)
This gets better everyday.
Playing the “threat” card. These clowns have no shame.
Reid is definately not popular with Mormons.
What does that even mean "threats against his invitation"? "Well, if we get a hold of that invitation, we're going to rough it up". Maybe they'll crumple it into a ball and throw it in a trash compactor or something.
Seriously, I guess if someone said "If the group has Reid to speak, we'll stop giving money", that would be a "threat against the invitation".
Especially not in Las Vegas.
The Democrats are funny people. They riot, threaten, disrupt with abandon, they have been doing this for 35 years. Yet we are told by their Press that they are tender as little babies.
This is Reid pulling a fire alarm so he doesn’t have to take any tests - he’s not prepared...
This probably has to do with his efforts to make his fellow Mormons pay for abortions.
Good on them. I'll bet there wasn't a threat in the bunch--just heartfelt objections. Reid better be careful about accusing his fellow Mormons.
Anyone who threatens Reid is a RACIST!
Funny Post :) In this case, he would not be paid to speak at the meeting known as a “Fireside.” It’s the equivalent of a devotional in other churches, but not a paid for event. I think this is ridiculous though.
Wow, this is so off the chart of reality, HARRY REID a Mormon? Joseph Smith must be writhing and turning in his grave. Of course it is about the same stupidity as Pelosi belonging to the Catholic church, they need to get their religion in their convictions and vote like their religious counterparts supposedly PREACH. Hyprocrisy.. Reminds me of Jimmy Carta the Baptist! Or Obama the Muslim. Time for the great Holy Inquisition to clean up the ranks, people using their religious just to get elected.
cancelled? or Reid did not make his “rent a crowd” payment.
Harry Reid will probably never set foot in a Mormon church again.
So...he cancelled because of threats but, there were no threats?
yeah, I don’t blame him. The threat of having his lies countered by patriots is, well, threatening.
Merely expressing disapproval against a Democrat in office is enough to start the wheels turning.
So what was the nature of the "threats" then?
