But then the South’s economy would have still gone to shambles because it was based around slave labor. I don’t think the South would have ever taken the deal, while we also have to realize the burdens of bringing in a huge immigrant population. The South is still feeling the effects of this reality, why would the North want to not only inherit the problem, but have to pay for it too!
W... T... F...?
The best analysis of the constitutional problems arising from the CW comes in Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny" IMHO.
Interesting that you and many other label someone with whom they disagree as a nut, loon, or kook, etc.
Obviously you do that because you cannot discuss or debate those ideas without resorting to name calling.
The current freeper culture is to slam and label anyone who doesn’t drink the koolaid and is afraid to look at differing points of view.
I’ll bet that you actually agree with him more than you want to admit! I’ll bet you prefer lower taxes, as well as smaller and less intrusive government.
It is a pity that the meme is to marginalize him instead of work with him on areas of agreement.
But hey, guess it is more popular to mock him than look for points of agreement and work from there.
Ever hear of puppy mills Mr. Paul? Ever hear of supply and demand?
What a sleezeball!
Because it would have been unconstitutional.
IMO forcing the war instead of letting slavery phase itself out caused the problems we have today.
I’ve actually seen more racism demonstrated in the north than in the South. The north didn’t want the freed slaves.
Where are his supporters?
NO PAULTARDS DEFENDING THEIR MAN OR THEIR SUPPORT OF HIM?
You’re spot-on! Ron Paul is right on some things, yet has
gone Timothy Leary on others. Kind of like Hunter Thompson
on adrenachrome.
The civil war was fought over state vs. Federal rights and how they pertained to the expansion of slavery into the territories.
To think it was 100% about ending slavery, is simplifying history.
It’s amazing what passes for breaking news these days...
And in early 1861, how many foresaw that the war would grow to the scale that it did? Paul is being his usual idiot self and trying to both ignore history and apply hindsight.
Each side thought they only had to show up and the other side would be so impressed that they would run away, and the “war” would be over in six weeks. What was the real “killer” was the South really didn’t count on the North sticking with the fighting once it got tough. I think the Northerners even surprised themselves with their determination.
I hate to break it to you.. The South fired the first shot..
Why was the underground railroad underground in the North?
The importation of slaves into the United States was prohibited by an Act of Congress, signed into law by then Pres. Jefferson, in Mar. 1807, and effective on 1 Jan. 1808, the earliest date allowable under the U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 9.
My understanding was that a procedure to buy and free slaves was being put in place, but Congress balked at the price.
>> It is only the matter of settling on the right price which will solve all human conflicts. Single-track individuals quite good in some narrow field of interest, but have the unfortunate tendency to apply it to every field as a panacea. <<
While I am Libretarian Leaning, I do understand the need of government in limited manners, like with Slavery the Government should be limited so it cannot enforce a contract of slavery.
