You do realize he now has the opportunity to shape the college enrollment figures. If you are in a Christian program, your loan will be denied. If you are in a program that he believes will not advance HIS agenda, ...loan refused.
Who decides what is discretionary? One guess, a vote for the dems qualifies you!

Does this mean we should spend our kids college savings and let them borrow? We’ve been fighting to just get them back up to pre-fall of 2008 amounts and are get close to getting back to even on them. Might as well spend them on my big new house while interest rates are low, construction workers are begging for work and before hyper inflation sets in on materials. Again, we get screwed for living right, paying our bills and savings from day one for their college.

The disgusting thing is, this was already signed into law right under our noses last summer. Google Income Based Repayment, signed into law 1 July, 2009. All the current legislation does is (i) Change cap from 15% of discr income to 10% and (ii) change 25-year forgiveness to 20-years.

Oh well, I guess my husband and I are suckers again...we pay off thousands in student loans (and all our other debt) and we get to pick up the slack for some idiot majoring in Feminist Lit.
Just in the last couple of we were trying to come up with a plan for sending him back to school part-time in the fall. We probably wouldn’t qualify for Obama money because he’s actually studying something useful like engineering.
OTOH, since we’ve sworn off student loans or any other debt forever, we’ll just pay cash :)

This is NATIONALIZATION of the student loan industry.
Obama uses the excuse that “they cut out the middle man”, who makes a profit, so it will “save” money.
Guess what — that same excuse could be usef for ANYTHING — let’s eliminate PROFIT for ALL industries, cars, food, clothimg, let the government take all those industries over and sell us everything directly, “cutting out the profit and the middleman”.
This is a second step (first step was the healthcare bill itself) to ELIMINATE CAPITALISM, free markets and replace it with socialism. In communist countries all stores, factories, everything was owned by the government and your only choice was to buy whatever the government decided to make available.
I don’t think people realize the importance and dreadfulness of this government takeover of the student loan industry.
We are all frogs in a pot, that Obama is slowly heating up until we are all cooked. — UNLESS we put in a Republican Congress in Nov, and stop this attack on our freedom.
