I think Social Security is a mandated service we must purchase.
But anyway, if FedGov mandates we all buy a GM “environmentally sustainable” car, ya think they’ll call it The People’s Car, or would that remind us too strongly of the first proponent of national health care (and workmen’s comp and unemployment insurance)?
Today a caller told the Judge (& Brian who wasn’t there today) that we are paying medicare premiums out of our paychecks. The Judge said well that is news to me, I never heard of that! Now for such a SMART man, why didn’t he know this already?
Not really. Legally, social security is a trust fund -- it is a reserve of your own money (theoretically, of course.)
It’s a tax, not a service.
No, we don’t have to purchase social security. Because I was a stay at home mom for 21 years, and the job I have now has a state run pension system, I don’t qualify for social security. No one made me buy it. If you don’t work, they can’t garnish your wages. With health care, I think you’ll have to sign up regardless of your employer or job status.
