Because in their own sick, perverted way they believe they are protesting homosexuality and the war. Most of the lib anti-war protests included similar offensive speech and posters, heck they openly called for fragging, but I don't think we should shut them up with the courts. Cross burning is not protected when it is found to constitute a threat intended to intimidate.
If anything they would be expected to welcome the war, as a morass in which to punish the USA.
They are slinging fighting words around.
I don’t think I understand the difference. I’m sure the cross burner would say that they are protesting the end of Christian America, or some such blather. Of course, I still don’t understand why burning a flag is protected, but burning a cross isn’t. Well, I’ll just have to wait for SCOTUS to sort it out for me.
