Look at the Spanish, Bosnian and Lebanese civil wars to see how ugly it gets when cities go to war with themselves, and when the “lines” are a shifting patchwork. It’s beyond ugly. Makes our CW1 look like a very polite gentleman’s duel.

I largely agree with you. I TOTALLY agree with the first part. I only partially disagree with respect to our previous Civil War being relatively restrained. In the formal armies, in the major theaters - yes. In the border states . . . sheer carnage, including the deliberate killing of unarmed civilians and disarmed troops. Numerous examples from both sides.
Even in the border states during CW1, it was rare for the women and children left behind to be murdered.
It was SOP in Bosnia, 100% SOP. An American CW2 would be Bosnia X 100.
