Speaker Nancy Pelosi has scheduled a House of Representatives vote today on the health care reform plan proposed by the President Obama and congressional Democrats. Yet while in Congress there has been months of posturing and shifting of political tactics, voter attitudes have remained constant: A majority oppose the plan being considered by the legislators.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone poll, taken Friday and Saturday nights, shows that 41% of likely voters favor the health care plan. Fifty-four percent (54%) are opposed. These figures have barely budged in recent months.
Another finding that has remained constant is that the intensity is stronger among those who oppose the plan. The latest findings include 26% who Strongly Favor the plan and 45% who Strongly Oppose it.
The partisan divide remains constant as well. Seventy-four percent (74%) of Democrats favor the plan, while 87% of Republicans are opposed. As for those not affiliated with either major party, 34% are in favor, and 59% are opposed.
Still, 50% of all voters say theyre less likely to vote this November to reelect a member of Congress who votes for the health care plan.
Fifty-seven percent (57%) believe that if the plan passes, the cost of health care will go up. Only 17% believe the plan will achieve the stated goal of reducing the cost of care.
At the same time, most voters (54%) believe that passage of the plan will hurt the quality of care.
The Congressional Budget Office recently said that the proposed legislation would reduce the deficit, but voters are skeptical of the official government projections. Eighty-one percent (81%) believe the health care plan will cost more than projected. Thats one reason voters overwhelmingly believe passage of the plan will increase the deficit and is likely to mean higher middle class taxes.

Our “representatives” do not care what we think.
“The Republicans should show at least as much tenacity in repealing legislation the public disapproves of as the Democrats do in passing it. “
They never seem to repeal ANYTHING. The ONLY reason the AWB is gone is that it had a sunset provision.
We should work to keep this atrocity in perspective. It is not about health care, and never has been. It is about oppressive power and control. Right out of the socialist playbooks. The Repubs should make this clear to the American electorate and work toward repealing it....perfect campaign fodder for 2010 and 2012.
They will also have another fight soon....AMNESTY. Obama will work hard to get every sleaze-bag vote he can muster.
They deserve the name the stupid party as much as the dems the do the evil party.
And they love power over the people as much as the hateful dems.
Exactly the problem. We really have no representation.
interesting poll numbers.
I wonder of the 54% of Americans who oppose the Healthcare Bill, how many of them can be “bought off” like certain members of Congress?
If the GOP doesn’t regain the House this time around after this atrocity today, they may end up in a permanent minority
I agree with your sentiments, but the f-word and other profanities are prohibited on Free Republic.
I think a better thing to remember is what followed of the last time we elected a senator from Illinois to the Presidency.... and Lincoln wasn’t some defender of “liberty” himself.
Seems like Lincoln had it wrong. Government of the people, by the people, and for the people has appeared to have perished from the earth.
“Seems like Lincoln had it wrong. Government of the people, by the people, and for the people has appeared to have perished from the earth.”
He had no interest in it either.

When all the bad things we KNOW are about to happen, happen, the polls will be 90% on our side and it will make the democrats the minority for the next 40 years.
Some people out in the hinterlands are kinda slow figuring out the Democrats and Republicans are all riding in the same limo.
People need to wake up and ask themselves how has the country been shifted so far to the left. We all know that the radicals from the 60’s haven taken over the Democratic Party. However, the Republican Party has to take some of the blame for this shift in the last few decades. Republicans had two Bush’s in the White House and they had control of Congress. They had a golden opportunity to reduce the size of government by cutting social services, cutting unsustainable government worker pensions, go after welfare, medicare, and medicaid fraud, and stop illegal immigration. Unfortunately we did not get any of this and in some cases got just the opposite.
George Bush senior was and is a globolist esposing a ‘one world order’. His son was worse. GW expanded government spending including social programs and promoting home loans to minorities and those that normally could not afford a home. His other abomination was his pro amnesty stance and ‘open border policy’, this being the greatest threat to our country.
The US now has over 40% of its population receiving some form of government assistance. Ironically this number happens to reflect Obamas poll #’s. Conservatives need to reflect back and stop electing Democrat lite Republicans. The uprising of the Tea Party is a refreshing sign. This country is truly at a crossroad in its history. Everyone is looking to this years election to shift the tide. I am fearful of massive voter fraud and amnesty for illegals. The Democrats will do whatever it takes to stay in power.
Can you ever remember an issue bigger than this, with less polling? During the height of the Iraq War there was a poll every 5 minutes...now they’re poised to take over 1/6 of the economy in one sweeping bill and the only one polling is Rasmussen.
