Dental displasia is inherited. All forms of it appear to be controlled by a single gene. The Sa'ami have an 18% incidence of missing teeth, on top of a general problem with dental displasia.

I can only imagine this enabled the ancient ancestors to eat raw seal meat without difficulty.
