Pro-Choice Caucus livid at talk of deal with Stupak on abortion (Pass the Popcorn)
hill ^ | 3/19/10 | allen

Leaders of the Pro-Choice Caucus, some 30 minutes after storming into Pelosi’s office, renewed that threat.

“This concurrent resolution which Congressman Stupak and several others have filed, from the position of the people who signed my letter back in November, is a non-starter,” said Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), a Pro-Choice Caucus co-chairwoman. “We compromised to the concept 'no federal funding for abortion,' which is current law -- we don't like that. And so if Mr. Stupak and a few members, along with the Republicans, decide to use this to take healthcare down, then that loss on healthcare coverage is going to be on their hands.”

If Stupak sees republicans saying “present” or “no” when they would ordinarily be saying yes essentially killing his amendment, then does he retaliate against us by voting for the bill and against his convictions. I worry about that a lot.

Or if we support him, then that does force the hand of the pro-choice caucus - they are really p’oed at this. But would they cave? I don’t know.

Lots of drama - don’t know the ending.

Stupak said unequivocally that he could live with Senate bill becoming law at the end of the day WITH THE FUNDING FOR ABORTION OUT.

Stupak is a big thorn right now for Obamacare and he will be our MVP at the end of the day. Pray for Stupak and company.

Good evening. Let's look at a liberal/socialist/democRAT's logic:

Killing babies in the womb is ok, but putting heinous criminals to death isn't.

The mind of a liberal is a terrible thing to waste...or maybe not.

How certain are you that Obamacare doesn’t become law?

Isn’t it sad that so many important decisions in our government revolve around the issue of whether unborn babies should be murdered?

You name the issue, and I’ll almost guarantee that the division between Left and Right comes down to abortion.

My prediction is that the pressure from the American people will cave this one in. Stupak and company will not compromise and will sink it.

In fact, when Pelosi comes up short of the votes, there will be other Democrats that will vote “no” at the end to try to save themselves from November and Pelosi will be ousted from being Speaker.

Obama will be dangerous throughout his term but we will continue to fight him.

CONTINUE TO PRAY, FIGHT AND ACT!

WITH THE FUNDING FOR ABORTION OUT.

That is not what he said in the article. He appears to be saying he would be "ok" if the senate bill passes without his vote. Then he could get socialized medicine and his conscience would be clear, because he opposed the bill based on the abortion language. Bottom line: taxpayer funded abortions and he's "ok" with that.

He will have washed his hands; how appropriate with Good Friday coming up. I will pray for him.

"What kind of scum thinks that taxpayers should be forced to pay to murder unborn babies? "

The ones who call it "Pro-Choice" when they force you to participate in an abortion.

How does Stupak group go to CHURCH Sunday morn and then vote for taxpayer funded abortions in afternoon??? NO WAY!!!

How do millions of Black people go to church and sing, clap, shout, and praise The Lord on Sunday and go into the voting booth on Tuesday and vote for a Party and candidates who propagate killing little babies and same-sex marriage?

Did you see him on Greta’s show tonight? He looked like he would not bend on this issue. He said he offered them 7 - 8 options but they did not accept them.

I know this guy is a liberal but I think he would go to his deathbed on the pro-life issue.

Sad to say, but, they probably won’t have time for church Sunday with all the mess going on in the Capitol Building.

This may explain what he is doing. It’s an article from LifeSiteNews from yesterday:

http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2010/mar/10031910.html

“Stupak said that he proposed legislation, an “enrollment corrections bill,” to House Democrat leaders last week, which he said was generating some interest. However, he is demanding that his abortion fix to the health care reform bill be passed into law before Democrats act on the bill.

“It has to be passed before the President would sign the Senate bill,” he emphasized. But the pro-life Michigan Democrat added that he had little confidence the measure would get any farther than the House of Representatives.

Failing the Senate approving his changes, Stupak said the White House would not get him and his twelve Democrats to support the Senate bill.

“My group is still holding firm, there are no votes,” Stupak said, adding that the position of his twelve has not changed since June 25, 2009, when they informed Speaker Pelosi that they would not vote for a bill that allowed federal dollars to subsidize abortions or health care plans that offer abortions.

He said that his group all voted for health care the first time around, but “we want to continue protecting the sanctity of life.”

“My group of twelve here we can make the difference on this vote, but at the same time, there is a principle we’re standing up for,” he said.”

This is exactly what Stupak has proposed and Obama and the Dems have sold their souls to the devil and the pro-aborts so they will not compromise on this one.

IT IS POPCORN TIME....

According to another source, Stupak wants assurances that the pro-life amendment will pass the Senate, i.e. that the pro-life fix is a guarantee.

So here’s the rub. Is getting health care passed so dire that Reid can get enough Senate Democrats who voted for abortion funding previously to embrace the Stupak language so that the Senate bill is changed? Dubious, but possible, I guess. And if the changed Senate bill goes back to the House, would the threatening pro-choice block peel off and refuse to support it.

And how long would all this maneuvering take? Obviously longer than a day and a half. Stupak would seem to be asking for the impossible, but at this point, it may be the only possibility availability for this to become law as clearly Pelosi wouldn’t be giving Stupak the time of day unless she needed his vote and the votes of some of the others in his coalition.

I did not see the interview. I hope you are correct. If he honestly will not vote for a bill that does not guarantee that his language becomes law, then I believe this bill goes down in flames. My fear is that he settles for some face saving gesture, or that under pressure, he deceives himself into accepting a meaningless vote. As I said I will pray for him.

Stupak said unequivocally that he could live with Senate bill becoming law at the end of the day.

From Day 1, I have NOT had confidence in Stupak standing firmly committed to his "principles". I pray that he will, however.
