“IAF Jets Scrambled as Foreign Fighters Approached Israel”

by Gil Ronen

SNIPPET: “(IsraelNN.com) The Israel Air Force’s readiness was tested Tuesday evening in an incident, the details of which are not being released in full.

The Israel Air Force’s Northern Control Unit spotted fighter jets from a foreign country approaching Israel’s air space. Israeli fighter jets were scrambled to intercept the foreign jets, out of concern that they were involved in a hostile attempt of some sort.

After a short time it became clear that the foreign jets were not attempting hostile action and the IAF jets returned to their bases.”

Sen. John Kerry Letter Supporting Code Pink’s Hamas-Aid Gaza Freedom March
Big Government ^ | Feb. 4, 2010 | Kristinn Taylor and Andrea Shea King
Posted on February 4, 2010 10:50:43 AM PST by patriotgal1787

Massachusetts senior U.S. Senator John Kerry provided a letter on Senate stationery that supported constituents who participated in last December’s anti-Israel, pro-Hamas Gaza Freedom March, led by President Barack Obama ally Code Pink.

Democrat Representative Andre Carson of Indiana’s 7th District also provided a letter of support for participants in the so-called Gaza Freedom March.

Kerry is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was the Democratic Party’s 2004 presidential nominee.

In the letter, Kerry wrote that his staff met with the Massachusetts delegation before they left, and his staff would be briefed about the trip upon their return.

Code Pink co-founders Jodie Evans and Medea Benjamin used Kerry’s letter at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt to pressure the Egyptian government to allow 1300 leftists passage into Gaza from Egypt. The leftists gathered in Cairo from around the world to mark the one-year anniversary of Israel’s defense against Hamas’ rocket and mortar attacks.

Iran believed developing S-300 variant aided by Russian contractors
GeoStrategy Direct ^ | 3/30/2010 | GeoStrategy Direct
Posted on April 1, 2010 10:36:10 PM PDT by sonofstrangelove

Iran was believed to have been receiving Russian help to develop a variant of the advanced S-300 surface-to-air missile. Western intelligence sources said Iran was contracting with Russia for the transfer of S-300 SAM technology. The sources said the technology and expertise provided by Russian engineers would enable Teheran to develop an S-300 variant while claiming that the system was indigenous.

“Russia is under heavy U.S. and Israeli pressure not to export the S-300PMU1,” a Western intelligence source said. “Instead, Moscow has quietly allowed Russian engineers connected to the S-300 program to work with Iran to develop a variant.”

The sources said the purported Russian effort was believed to have begun in 2009 amid delays in transferring the S-300. They said Teheran demanded SAM technology for an Iranian variant of the S-300 interceptor.

“It is believed that Iran already has an S-300 radar,” the source said.

Over the last few months, the Iranian Defense Ministry has reported the development of an indigenous air and missile defense system. Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the program would eliminate the need to procure Russia’s S-300.

“Essentially, it is not necessary for us to produce S-300 missiles only,” Vahidi said. “The Defense Ministry and Armed Forces Logistics will design and manufacture what they want.”

Since 2005, Iran has sought the S-300, designed to intercept aircraft at a range of up to 120 kilometers. Teheran said the S-300 project called for the delivery of the first systems by April 2009 in an effort to counter any Israeli or U.S. air strike.

“If they do not deliver S-300 defensive system to us, we have replacements and we can supply our operational requirements through innovative techniques and different designs,” Iranian Air Force Maj. Gen. Hassan Mansourian, head of the air defense base at Khatam Anbia, said.

Man Suffers Fractured Skull in Rock Attack

by Maayana Miskin

SNIPPET: “(IsraelNN.com) A resident of Yitzhar was wounded Thursday evening when Palestinian Authority Arabs threw a large rock at a car just outside the Samaria village. The rock hit his head as he sat in the back seat of the vehicle, next to his two children.

The man suffered a head injury and lost blood. IDF medics rushed him to Beilinson hospital. It was later determined that his wounds include a fractured skull, which required surgery, which was reported as successful. The children were unhurt in the attack.

Jewish residents of Samaria explained that since the Huwarra checkpoint was opened as a “good-will gesture” to the PA, Arab traffic has flooded the junction near Yitzhar. Terrorists have been known to take advantage of the slow traffic to pick out Israeli-owned vehicles and target them easily.”

Israel as a Security Asset for the United States

We, the undersigned, have traveled to Israel over the years with The Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA). We brought with us our decades of military experience and, following unrestricted access to Israel’s civilian and military leaders, came away with the unswerving belief that the security
of the State of Israel is a matter of great importance to the United States and its policy in the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean. A strong, secure Israel is an asset upon which American military planners and political leaders can rely. Israel is a democracy – a rare and precious commodity in the region – and Israel shares our commitment to freedom, personal liberty and rule of law.

Throughout our travels and our talks, the determination of Israelis to protect their country and to pursue a fair and workable peace with their neighbors was clearly articulated. Thus we view the current tension between the United States and Israel with dismay and grave concern that political differences may be allowed to outweigh our larger mutual interests.

As American defense professionals, we view events in the Middle East through the prism of American security interests.

The United States and Israel established security cooperation during the Cold War, and today the two countries face the common threat of terrorism by those who fear freedom and liberty. Historically close cooperation between the United States. and Israel at all levels including the IDF, military research and development, shared intelligence and bilateral military training exercises enhances the security of both countries. American police and law enforcement officials have reaped the benefit of close cooperation with Israeli professionals in the areas of domestic counter-terrorism practices and first response to terrorist attacks.

Israel and the United States are drawn together by shared values and shared threats to our well-being.

The proliferation of weapons and nuclear technology across the Middle East and Asia, and the ballistic missile technology to deliver systems across wide areas require cooperation in intelligence, technology and security policy.

Terrorism, as well as the origins of financing, training and executing terrorist acts, need to be addressed multilaterally when possible. The dissemination of hatred and support of terrorism by violent extremists in the name of Islam, whether state or non-state actors, must be addressed as a threat to global peace.

In the Middle East, a volatile region so vital to U.S. interests, it would be foolish to disengage – or denigrate – an ally such as Israel.
