Republicans assail IRS provision in health care bill By Vicki Needham - 03/18/10 03:22 PM ET
House Ways and Means Republicans on Thursday assailed a provision in the proposed health care reform bill under consideration this week.
Subcommittee on Oversight ranking member Charles Boustany (R-La.) said the IRS provision in the bill "dangerously expands, in an ominous way the tentacles of the IRS and it's reach into every American family," he said today during a press conference.
"This is a vast expanse of power," he said.
Boustany said the bill would allow the IRS to confiscate refunds if there are penalties for not buying health care.

snip Sec. 1102. Medicare Advantage payments. Freezes Medicare Advantage payments in 2011. Beginning in 2012, the provision reduces Medicare Advantage benchmarks relative to current levels. Benchmarks will vary from 95% of Medicare spending in high-cost areas to 115% of Medicare spending in low-cost areas. The changes will be phased-in over 3, 5 or 7 years, depending on the level of payment reductions. The provision creates an incentive system to increase payments to high‐quality plans by at least 5%. It also extends CMS authority to adjust risk scores in Medicare Advantage for observed differences in coding patterns relative to fee-for‐service. So they throw seniors, who have had $$ stolen from their pay checks for 40 years or so, a CRUMB, by giving them another $250 (donut hole), but will ration seniors health care. I hope seniors don't fall for this, and I don't think most will.
Personally, I don't like Medicare Part D, but my point is that they are trying to make seniors think they will get more, by giving them the $250. Another day, another trick.

One woman, who is an attorney and works for the state of California just totally went off right in the reception area:

People have been making comments all day: "If you are an older person and the prospects of life after a heart surgery are eight or so years, who is going to make that decision?"
"How can you have government health care without rationing, and if you have rationing who decides?"
It's like they're waking up to a bad dream. I've never seen anything like this. People are more calm through earthquakes!

I called Lifeline, the suicide help line. Got a freakin’ call center in Pakistan. I told them I was suicidal.
They all got excited and asked if I could drive a truck...
