There were a few places in which Joshua disobeyed the above instruction from God. I have not personally done the research to verify this, but I heard in a sermon that if you look at a biblical-time map of where Joshua allowed the inhabitants to stay, then transpose those locations onto a modern map, the places equate to the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and the Golan Heights.
Has anyone here personally researched this point? I strongly suspect that Joshua's disobedience on this commandment is exactly where the "Palestinian" issue tracks back to, but I'd love to see this kind of correlation on a map myself.

Joshua 9 is the record of the Gibeonite deception. In Judges 2:20 - 23, the recording of the Canaanites being a snare for the lack of faithfulness is prophesized.
