Republicans slam Obama's hard line on Israel

WASHINGTON — Republican lawmakers came out swinging Monday against President Barack Obama's hard line toward Israel over its controversial plans to expand a settlement in disputed East Jerusalem.

The number two Republican in the House of Representatives deplored the Obama administration's stance on Israel as "irresponsible" a week after Israel gave the green light to build 1,600 new homes for Jewish settlers in the area the Palestinians want as the capital of their future state.

Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other top officials said last week's announcement of the new construction was insulting and damaging to efforts to revive long-stalled peace talks.

"To say that I am deeply concerned with the irresponsible comments that the White House, vice president and the secretary of state have made against Israel is an understatement," said House Republican Whip Eric Cantor, the only Jewish Republican in the House of Representatives.

"In an effort to ingratiate our country with the Arab world, this administration has shown a troubling eagerness to undercut our allies and friends."

He said the administration's public spat with the Jewish State "jeopardizes America's national security."

Wasn’t it the obama administration that barely recognized Netanhyahu’s last visit to DC ? I think they deserve to be insulted ....a little more, even.

My fraternity has supported Israel for over a thousand years. As an American, I support Israel as the only democracy in the region but, as a conservative, I oppose the Billions in foreign aid simply given to them.

I completely agree. However, Israel takes that aid and purchases military hardware from American defense contractors.

If we are going to give foreign aid I would rather it go to Israel then the damn Saudis.

I am thankful Eric Cantor is speaking up.

I’m about out of words. I feel nothing but contempt and hatred for Obama, Biden, Hillary and every other democrat in his adminstration who seek to restrict Israel in any manner.

Israeli’s have their very lives on the front line and Obama and his administration have treated Israel shamefully, and contrary to former American policy.

Obama has gone out of his way to publically disrespect Israel, beginning with his deep bow to the Saudi king and his speech in Cairo.

God gave Israel to the Jews. He is going to come down on the side of the Jews and woe be unto any nation that turns its back on Israel. I’ve always thought our nation has been so blessed because we have been a friend to Gods people. God will take His Hand of protection off of us when we turn against Israel. The bible speaks of the the abomination of antichrist when he occupies the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. I’d say this is it.

Yes. As Barry is dismantling everything good about America - this is another way he's bringing curses on America.

And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse.

God bless Republican Whip Eric Cantor! Just takes one good man.

Yes, The One has finally made his feeling known. And it's important not to make this a Dem/GOP issue, because it's not.

BTW, I doubt Obama has to go far out of his way to disrespect Isreal, given Israel's demographics.

I suspect there'll be more, on both sides of the aisle.

Do you have a problem with the billions given to the Arab countries and non-countries (so-called Palestinians) surrounding Israel, as well?

Hussein is like a brat poking what he thinks is a defenseless lion cub. Unknown to the cruel little creep, the mother lion is about to pounce on his back in defense of her cub. The Almighty is watching the smart-mouthed little brat... Hussein’s plans and his world are about to crashing around him.

Aid to Israel is largely in the form of defense dollars. She spends, and Americans benefit. Plus is is far smaller today. Israel is far better off fiscally than the US.

Hussein is like a brat poking what he thinks is a defenseless lion cub.

He is a very small person, isn't he. Like his sidekick Rahm, he plays the Chicago tough guy with zero to back it up. His act won't do well on the world stage.
