Ties between Israel and US 'worst in 35 years'

Israel's ambassador to the US has said that relations between the two countries are at their lowest point for 35 years, Israeli media have reported.

Last week Israeli officials announced the building of 1,600 new homes in occupied East Jerusalem while US Vice-President Joe Biden was visiting.

The move was seen as an insult to the US. Palestinian leaders say indirect talks with Israel are now "doubtful".

But Israel's PM said Jewish settlements did "not hurt" Arabs in East Jerusalem.

Addressing Israel's parliament, the Knesset, Benjamin Netanyahu said he wanted peace negotiations, and hoped the Palestinians would not present "new preconditions" for talks.

"No government in the past 40 years has limited construction in neighbourhoods of Jerusalem," he said.

"Building these Jewish neighbourhoods in Jerusalem does not hurt the Arabs of East Jerusalem or come at their expense."

It is amazing to me that the the reasonable side of this diatribe (Israel), is the one that gets all the pressure, attacks, bitter invective, denunciation, abuse, criticism, etc., For 62 years they have fought, been miraculously successful against mammoth odds, on going to hold on to and survive in their own land. They gave land to Libya, to Egypt,to Jordan, to the Palestinians etc, all to no avail.

The other side signs agreements and does not keep them ... ever. It is insane and stupid to believe that talks will do anything other than the same ole, same ole, Israel makes concessions on promises and never receives it.

The Palestinians/Arabs do not recognize Israel as a nation and they have never given an inch. Despite promises to do otherwise.

God watches over Israel and ultimately will preserve them and save them. In the meantime, they endure suicide bombers, rockets, terrorists attacks, and pressures from all over the world including the US. We (the US) are on the wrong side of this argument. We need to support the only Democracy in the middle east.(that part of the world. Why are we equivocating about it. Obama must be 100% for the Islamic nations, period. MO
