My dad was on a DE as well, Pacific theater, 44-45.

There’s a book out called ‘the Tin Can sailors’. Haven’t read it yet.

Dad-in-law was there on LST 543. He didn't get there till ‘45 if we recall.

Our generation would be hard pressed to find a family who didn't have someone, or multiple someones who were there. If not Navy, the other branches of the military. Still It's interesting how many have parents who were there.

“Tin Can Sailors” is an excellent book. I think that Mel Gibson should make it into a movie.
