CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called for regulation of the Internet on Saturday while demanding authorities crack down on a critical news Web site that he accused of spreading false information.

In a televised speech, Chavez said: "The Internet can't be something free where anything can be done and said.

No, every country has to impose its rules and regulations," Chavez said.

I’m sure Sean Penn fully supports this decision.

As long as he doesn’t have to personally lose his Internet access.

The Clintons and the Obamists aspire to control the internet, and if we don’t manage to drive them from office they are going to try.

What became of all the brave flaming lefties that were boasting about how the “internet sees censorship as damage and routes around it” back in the 80s and 90s? Have they now decided “it’s good to be king”?

Curious..............anyone here been to Caracas?

I've never felt less safe there than anywhere in the world.

Cairo feels FAR more safe. (except no one drives with their headlights on). But Cairo feels safer, by far.

A Venezuelan friend living here in the US asked me once, “are you afraid here?” No, I said. There are parts of town I don’t go at night, but no, generally speaking, I’m never afraid here.

“I’m not afraid either.” he said, “but when I am in Venezuela I am afraid all the time.” From what others tell me, not just him, Caracas has gotten very bad. It was bad years ago when I was there, but I didn’t worry about it. My friends tell me I wouldn’t recognize it, it has got so bad.

LOL - Is there anything that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez would not hesitate to regulate? -
Oh maybe Sean Penn’s public media love feasts for him shouldn’t be regulated!

I wonder about that sometimes also.

This ridiculous petty tyrant inspires doting admiration among certain democrats. May they all share the same hell.

“Curious..............anyone here been to Caracas?”

I was in Caracas several years ago for a couple of days. I wanted to change some dollars to local currency; I asked at the Embassy Suites what the exchange rate was - they wouldn’t tell me, they were afraid to say! I went across the street to a currency exchange and after two hours was able to change my money. Mind you, that was two years ago, Venezuela has only gotten worse since then.

I expect a coup soon.

Hollywood types like Sean Penn are selfish idiots. But I think there are some on the left who are saying no to censorship. It seems that Google will discontinue its search engine in China. Hopefully Google will stand firm. If Google stand up to the Chinese, this will shame the extremists on the left like Sean Penn.

Marxism/socialism is so fragile that it simply can't logically defend itself from criticism. These types of societies always revert to censorship in order to maintain their hold on the people.

Think of the attacks on Fox News, Glenn Beck, Limbaugh, etc by the Marxist (I've quit referring to them as demoRats - might as well call them what they are) here in the United States. If they don't have a rigged encounter (Sunday morning news shows, etc) where they can call you names and shout any criticism down, they are incapable of logically defending their actions.

My new tag line:

A politician is an elected official whose primary goal is to enrich him/herself while appearing to represent his constituents; maintaining a degree of plausible deniability regardless of the results of his efforts.
