I “sailed” MSTS six times across the Pacific.
1951-1961
Sailed from Seattle to Japan on the Liberty Ship USS Mitchell in 1958 and came back, to Oakland, on the USS Mann in 1961. The Boeing 707 was just gaining popularity then, and we were some of the last troops to move by ship. Shortly after that they started sending everyone by air.
