I’ve done some things I’m not proud of. And, it was facing my sins, and the terrible remorse, guilt, and humiliation I felt, that led me to Conservatism, and a better relationship with God.
ALL of the facts regarding his actions then, and afterward, are not known. Perhaps he, too, felt the weight of remorse, and has since atoned for his sins?

Did Garn himself bring this up after it had been buried for 25 years? Sounds like he though people would be “more forgiving” of sin, and usually they are.
