Demonstrations by Secular Turks Spread Throughout Turkey
"protest[s] against the AKP party and Islamist fundamentalism . . . to assert that the Turkish people desires a secular, democratic Turkey."
It ain't going to happen without a fight, I bet.
I believe that these demonstrations are from a couple of years ago. True that the AKP was first elected and then retained control the following election -- but it was with the promise to respect Turkey's constitutional democratic Republic.
“It ain’t going to happen without a fight, I bet.”
Perhaps your right. The bigger question to me is, which side will be more ruthless and unrelenting in pursuing their goals?
I notice in the linked article that much of the resistance movement is supported by women and women’s groups. I hate to think what treatment awaits them in the confrontation.
