(GA) Lawmakers Consider Ending Pill Mills (by instituting Big Brother laws)
WSB Atlanta ^ | March 11, 2010 | Condace Pressley

(WSB Radio) -- Do you want government to track what prescriptions you take and how often you fill them? That was a big question under the gold dome today, as lawmakers considered a measure to stop so-called "pill mills."

Kennesaw Police Chief Bill Westenberger says clinics that prescribe all kinds of dangerous narcotics to patients in ultra-high doses pose a growing danger.

"I think what we're seeing in Georgia," he told the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, "is the beginning of an epidemic."

The chief was talking to a senate committee looking over a bill that would track all narcotics prescriptions to make sure would-be drug dealers don't pharmacy-hop to stock up on high-potency drugs. But after the committee hearing at the capitol, State Senator Preston Smith told WSB this measure raises big concerns.

"This would create a centralized electronic database of people's private medical information," he pointed out. That, he worries, might pose a threat to patient privacy.

In the end, the bill was sidetracked to a subcommittee. Still, Smith hopes it will get to the floor of the Senate sometime next week.

More broad sweeping nanny state / anti-privacy laws targeting isolated incidents, so law enforcement can be lazy.

Similar laws have worked so well on other fronts in other states. For example, in Indiana they've successfully prevented dangerous grandmothers from treating their families for colds. /SARC

Like the NYC politician I watched last night - need I mention his party? - proposing that NYC ban all salt usage in restaurants, by the cooks or the patrons, including a $1,000 fine for offending cooks or customers. Turns out his father had found out recently that he had high blood pressure.

Lord, save us from people like these.

The salt ban would make Kosher meat illegal. No Pastrami. No Corned Beef. But Halal meat is required in public schools.

Uh....no.

"I think what we're seeing in Georgia," he told the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, "is the beginning of an epidemic."

While certainly a mortal danger, the nanny state is hardly just beginning; it's been clawing its way from the ooze for decades.

Code Red” - House Target List on Health Care

The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

Under the proposed new law, you'll be ok as long as you don't try to sneak it in a NYC restaurant, there'll be a $1,000 fine for that.
