Well, The Generals always acted early to avoid precisely something like this. For whatever reason, they let the Islamists stay in power this time. That missed opportunity was, I’m not sure exactly, but probably seven or eight years ago. And their behavior in response to the Iraq invasion made it pretty clear that things had changed.
Now the Islamists are taking out the Generals, lest they be taken out. It’s a question of preventive maintenance, which the Generals neglected to do when they had the chance. Now it’s probably too late.
Keep in mind that Obama made a very specific campaign promise to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide as such and then rescinded that promise to grovel to Turkey immediately after being sworn in.
Congress instead made an official resolution to acknowledge the murder as “genocide” and now Obama and Hillary are freaking out because the US has ticked off Turkey.
Can't say I disagree. This is going to be very bad......
By the way, does anyone else think this is a possible reason why Israel was telling American investors to remove funds from Israeli banks yesterday? They know something is coming?
Then we need to go repossess our stuff.
Turkey WHO?
Who Cares?
Our idiot government is unwittingly helping to develop the foundation of the biblical 10 nation (Islamic) confederation that will soon go to war against Israel. We are being led by fools.
Tank, Turkey has co-production for F-16's, like Israel. This isn't the UAE. What we need to do is get these incompetents out of the White House.
You've spent a LOT of time in the military obviously. So what heavy lift base do you propose to replace Incerlik? And the Early warning RADARS in the rest of Turkey.
Sounds pretty current and paid-up to me.
Turkey's "formerly Islamist" president, Abdullah Gul, in a weekend telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart called for a deepening of bilateral relations and voiced support for Iran in international forums.Oh yeah, the Armenian genocide resolution is what drove this bastard into the arms of Iran. My ass. Thanks Free ThinkerNY.
With friends like Turkey, who needs enemies? Europe denied Turkey entry into the EU and it hasn’t stopped pouting yet. The Islamists have been in control of government for more than a decade, and they have done little to halt an economic downslide. Above all, they fear a military resurgence. Thus, it is interesting to ascertain, who is making the pro-Iran noise, the government, the military, or both. If it is the government, watch for a coup.
I'm still waiting for all you bad ass Israeli's to deliver the knock out punch to Iran.......oh wait......now you can kick Turkey's ass too.
BTW, when was the last time Israel won a war......?
.. and you are certainly correct. Turkey has been a long-time friend and NATO ally.
Modern Turkey knows the horror of the loses -- on both sides. It was a continuation of Russia and Armenians against Ottoman Turks 100+ years war. Millions killed and uprooted, on both sides, since the late 18th Century.
There is an issue behind the issue of the word genocide; to wit,
Specific to W.W.I
Also, why just Turkey? To wit,
Again, why just Turkey?
"'German Responsibility in the Armenian Genocide: A Review of the Historical Evidence of German Complicity" by Vahakn N. Dadrian.
A Turkish civilian employee, working at LANDSOUTHEAST, told me there is no such thing as an Armenian or an Armenian Genocide.
Though this article is from three years ago.. I don't think that the public has become more comfortable with the ruling AKP so I do think that the Turks will go willingly.
In truth, it was President Bush that garnered more respect for American than even Reagan did. Countries may not have liked us, but they certainly respected us. Now under Obama, countries like Turkey and Brazil openly disrespect us.
There was a coup in the making a few weeks back. Unfortunately the mullahs grabbed the generals doing the planning. Hopefully there are some Turkish soldiers loyal to the Attaturk ideal still.
