This is just outrageous and MUST be stopped.
All Freepers should call the Texas Board of Education members before the next meeting which is this month.

Because if not, I question what makes you think you should be speaking.
I should be speaking because I have researched all U.S. history textbooks, the textbook industry, and publishers. And since this affects everyone, I guess that makes me eligible. So buzz off.

Barbra Cargill:
Currently, Cargill works closely with teachers through professional development training and consulting work. Her passion for children motivates her to work in many schools by doing Science Outreach Programs. In addition to her work with science education, Cargill is a sustainer with the Junior League of North Harris County and South Montgomery Counties. Along with her three sons, Cargill volunteers for many things such as the Interfaith Food Pantry and bowling with special needs young adults. She is on the advisory board for The Woodlands Children’s Museum and works with the youth at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. Cargill is active at her sons’ high school where she serves on the board of the Parent Teacher Organization.
She holds a Masters of Science in Science Education from Texas Women’s University and an undergraduate degree from Baylor University.
As a member of the State Board of Education, Cargill, a Republican, represents about 1.4 million Texans who reside in Angelina, Bowie, Cass, Gregg, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Liberty, Marion, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Panola, Polk, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Trinity and Tyler.
Ken Mercer:
Ken Mercer is a businessman and former member of the Texas House of Representatives.
He earned a bachelor’s in biology from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Business Administration from UT-San Antonio. He also has a Master’s of Business Administration in finance and management from St. Mary’s University.
An advisor to the governor as a member of the state Homeland Security Council, Mercer also has served on the State Republican Executive Committee and was a member of Delta Mu Delta Graduate Business Honor Society.
He was named 2005 Alumnus of the Year by UTSA and was given the Distinguished Legislator Award by the Texas Republican House Caucus. In 2003, the San Antonio Police Officer’s Association named Mercer the Legislator of the Year.
Mercer was elected to State Board of Education in November 2006. He serves as vice chair of the board’s Committee on Instruction and previously served as vice chair of the board’s Committee on School Initiatives. Mercer represents the following counties: Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall, Llano, and parts of Bell, Bexar and Travis counties.
Lawrence Allen Jr:
Lawrence Allen, Jr., a third-generation educator, was elected to the State Board of Education in 2004 and re-elected in 2006. Allen now serves as vice chair ofthe 15 member board. As the District 4 board member, he represents about 1.4 million people in the Houston area. He serves on the board’s Committee on Instruction and previously served on the Committee on Planning.
Along with his service on the board, Allen is the director of special projects in the Houston Independent School District. He served as principal of the Jesse H. Jones High, assistant principal of Dowling Middle, Jones Senior and Jack Yates High School. He was a teacher at Lanier and Dowling Middle School.
Allen is a member of the Houston Association of School Administrators; Texas Association of Gifted and Talented; National Association of Secondary Principals; and the National Association of Secondary Administrators; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
He holds a bachelor’s and two master’s degrees from Prairie View A&M University.
As the District 4 representative on the State Board of Education, Allen, a Democrat, represents parts of Fort Bend and Harris counties.
Allen is married to Clothild (Cindy) Allen. The Allens have four children, Patrice, Lawrence III, Alim and Ali.
Terri Leo:
Leo is an active member of the Republican Party and has attended every Republican State Convention in Texas since 1984 as a delegate or an alternate delegate. She also attended the 1996 and 2000 Republican National Conventions as an alternate delegate and served as chair of the Texas National Nominations Committee. She is a charter member of the Cherry Tree Republicans and the Texas Tea Party Republican Women’s Club; a dual member of Daughters of Liberty Republican Women’s Club; and a member of the Northwest Forest Republican Women’s Club.
She is the mother of three daughters.
As a member of the State Board of Education, Leo represents a portion of Harris County.
Tincy Miller:
She is a graduate of the public schools in Dallas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Methodist University, academic language therapist certificate, and a Master of Science in Reading from Texas A&M University-Commerce, formerly East Texas State University.
She has taught in the reading laboratory of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children under the direction of Dr. Lucius Waites, and in the Highland Park Presbyterian Hillier School for Dyslexia, a private school for dyslexia and related disorders, and has provided tutoring.
Currently she serves on the board of L.I.F.T. (Literacy Instruction for Texas), a non-profit organization providing literacy instruction to adults, and served as president for two years. Miller is the founding chair for the Baylor Health Care System Foundation, raising more than $250,000 in the first giving campaign. She also is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, International Reading Association, and the Academic Language Therapist Association.
She is very active in her community, chairing major fundraising events for the United Cerebral Palsy Association; Dallas Opera; the Dallas Symphony Orchestra; TACA, the umbrella organization for the performing arts in Dallas; and the Crystal Charity Ball, a nonprofit organization raising approximately $3 million for needy children in Dallas County in 1997. She also has served on the “I Have A Dream” Foundation, National Orton-Dyslexia Society, the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Greater Dallas, and the Dallas County Heritage Society. Miller received the 1999 Tom Landry Award of Excellence in Volunteerism. She also received the 1988 Dean’s List Award for Community Service and in 1975 was named Theta of the Year for Service in the Community. Miller also received the 1995 Dallas Historical Society Hall of State Award for Civic Involvement.
Miller and her husband, Vance, are the parents of four children.
As a member of the State Board of Education, Miller represents Rockwall County and parts of Collin and Dallas counties.

Gail Lowe is the Head of the TEA Board. She is a Repub.
The make-up of the Board is mainly Repubs. Pretty much community oriented over-achievers. But I think the Country should feel fairly safe with these mainstream (normal people) working on the Texbook Issue.

I am happily stunned with such a resume. Junior League is always a good sign. A lot of radical, deadly intent women therein. She probably likes shotguns.
Marty: 1) I’ve already been on; 2) I talked to two board members and a conservative activist about this before I went on and got the correct info; 3) I did pass this along to three separate FOX interviewers, but they didn’t seem to care about the distinctions; and 4) I looked at the curriculum and found nothing objectionable in it from EITHER Left or Right. I thought it was extremely balanced. Of course, any kook can “request” any change, but that doesn’t mean it will be given the time of day.
Yes I saw you this AM. Very good interview and Doucy is always level headed.
I thought the hysteria yesterday was a little overdone, but this happens eveytime this comes up in Tx. EVILE Repubs and Conservs ya’ know. I know it must seem strange to these members that people would think they would stand by and allow American History to be removed, but then the Tx haters will always be screaming about the process.
