Obama renews call for Iran dialogue
March 20, 2010 5:59 a.m. EDT
President Obama reiterated his offer of dialogue with Tehran in a message on Saturday to mark the beginning of the Iranian new year.
The online video, subtitled in Farsi, was timed to coincide with Nooroz, a festival celebrating the Persian new year. It pledged the administration's commitment to a more hopeful future for Iran.
"I want the Iranian people to know what my country stands for," Obama said in the message. "The United States believes in the dignity of every human being, and an international order that bends the arc of history in the direction of justice -- a future where Iranians can exercise their rights, to participate fully in the global economy, and enrich the world through educational and cultural exchanges beyond Iran's borders."
Obama said though Iran has "chosen to isolate itself, " he is open to dialogue.
"That is why, even as we continue to have differences with the Iranian government, we will sustain our commitment to a more hopeful future for the Iranian people," he said.
****************************** NOW, I really got to go! Later.
Three quarters of Americans today KNOW exactly what this administration's version of "hope" portends, and it's nothing they remotely desire, want or need.
Alert from Joel Rosenberg....Tentions Hot
Unfortunately, the train wreck continues. It has been a strange week in U.S.-Israeli relations. WHITE HOUSE @ STATE DEPT. OFFICIALS continue harshly criticizing the Jewish State. Now they HAVE CREATED A LIST OF AT LEAST SEVEN DEMANDS ISRAEL MUST COMPLY WITH to show it is serious about peace.
Has the Obama admininistration been this tough and confrontational with Iran as it builds nuclear weapons? No. Some analysts are even suggesting the OBAMA ADMINISTRATION IS MORE INTERESTED IN ...’REGIME CHANGE’ IN ISRAEL THAN IN IRAN, hoping to topple the Netanyahu administration, or at least force it to include more left-wing members. Were the Palestinians given an ultimatum after 14 months of refusing to show up at peace talks? No. Were Hamas and the PLO given an ultimatum after weeks of violence and new threats to launch a full-blown third intifada in Jerusalem? No.
Prime Minister NETANYAHU IS STILL SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE IN US MONDAY That night, he will address the AIPAC Policy Conference dinner, speaking before an estimated 4,000 administration officials, Members of Congress, pro-Israel activists and journalists. Secretary Clinton will also address the conference, as will former British PM Tony Blair, among others. Lord willing, I will provide you a direct report from what happens inside the AIPAC meetings.
Before the Israeli PM arrives, however, lets show our support for Israel. Please contact the White House, your Senators and your Representative, and Secretary Hillary Clintons office. Tell them respectfully that you support Israel, oppose dividing Jerusalem, and that you request the administration stop the rhetorical attacks on Israel and instead show strong, public, consistent support for Israel, our most faithful democratic ally in the Middle East.
