Does President Obama even Understand Insurance ?

President Obama and the Democrat Party have made a public policy goal of "Health Care Reform," often using the euphemism "Health Insurance Reform." Last Thursday, the President and the Democrats held a nationally televised "summit" whereby they were to demonstrate their vast superiority of insight on this subject. Considering that the Democrats have been studying and legislating this issue for more than a year, the President displayed a striking lack of even fundamental understanding of insurance of any kind. (3 min You Tube video proof)

Some have commented on the President's pointless analogy describing his personal experience with auto liability insurance. This was not the President's only blazingly stupid argument. At one point the President, clearly believing he was scoring winning points in an intellectual discussion, went into bizarre detail about how insurance works. That is, the concept of pooling risk. The President explained that he and and his congressional counterparts enjoyed "low" insurance rates because they had a large "pool." The President contended that he would be creating such a "pool" for the rest of America - that we might all enjoy rates as "low" as his own.

The President seems totally oblivious to the fact that his rates are not what most Americans consider to be "low." The average family rate for a Federal Employee is $1,030.00 per month. (source L.A. Times Aug. 2, 2009)...

Does Obama understand insurance? Well, the Dem's believe that Social Security is an insurance plan, so I'm guessing he thinks the health insurance industry works the same way. A giant ponzi scheme designed to defraud a future population, long after you are out of office.

all this over 30m uninsured people... 20m of which are illegal

if we decided to insure ALL these people... using state farm... $85/mon for major medical ($2500 deductible, 80:20)... and additional $15/mon for vision and dental... $100/mon

figure $1,000/yr on volume discount ... that’d be a TOTAL of $30 billion/ yr

that’s it! yet, for some reason, we’re supposed to spend $6 trillion over 10 years... or 20 times as much

why?

sorry... I say no... hell no

It reminds me of the time a rich girl was assigned a school project to write an essay about what it was like to be poor. She started off with, “Once upon a time there was a poor family. The butler was poor, the housekeeper was poor, the chauffeur was poor, the pool boy was poor, the gardener was poor...”

Remember, last year, when Obama trotted out a lady with kidney disease, who was denied an insurance policy?

Well, that was proof positive that Obama is an idiot.

Federal law REQUIRES that “End State Renal” be treated differently than any other disease.

Those with such kidney diseases AUTOMATICALLY qualify for Medicare, regardless of age.

Those with End Stage Renal are NOT ALLOWED to apply for privatized Medicare, known as “Medicare Advantage” -— they MUST, by federal law, apply for regular, traditional old fashioned Medicare Part A and Part B.

After Medicare is in force, they can purchase a Medicare Supplement plan, to pay the gaps in federal coverage.

This is Federal law!

The idiots in the Obama administration, and the idiots who represent this poor, sick woman, in Congress, do not even understand current insurance law!

The Rise of the Obama and the (near) Destruction of America The Great shows the weakness of Positivism as a moral and ethical guide.

Obama is careful to speak in positive terms. "Hope" is a positive word. "Change" is a positive word in that he uses it to implay change away from bad things.

Social Promotion is an offshoot of an ethos of Positivism.

Since the 1952 publication of "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale three full generations have been taught that 'Positivism' is a the best way to find truth in an uncertain world.

Peale was picking up a baton in a race that went back to the progressive era early 1900's, the rise of Boosterism and Optimistism -- 1922, the Optimist Creed.

An optimistic outlook is a good thing, but as a moral ethos Optimist and Positivism come to tolerate and then promote social cancers -- tolerance for deviant socially destructive 'lifestyles', intolerance for the kind of harsh judgments needed in basic education and accounting, and the messiah-complex type of social phenomena of hero worship.

What we call a 'RINO' -- a Republican in Name Only -- is often a would-have-been traditional conservative wrecked morally on the shoals of Positivism.

The utter amoral banality of the Main Stream Media arose in a spirit of positivism pervasive in news presentation. A "You Were There" positivistic surety of knowing everything that needed be known.

For three generations "Looking Good" won out over making harsh reality as good as men might make it. Why? Because under the ethos of Positivism, what looked good was good, and making things 'look good' is easier all around. That is it is easier for many years -- until enough harsh reality is ignored to break down the grand cultural Positivist delusion.

Perhaps the most deadly of all the pathologies unleashed by Positivism is Social Promotion -- Barack Obama is certainly the acme, the pinnacle, the apex, the endpoint -- the Messiah figure -- of that educational and professional promotional rubric.

No, Obama does not understand insurance, business, loans, health care, government, military, law, or anything else. He is a high-functioning idiot, a product of the schooling of his age. He does have a gift, true.

He speaks as King Positivists, totally divorced from any reality except to speak of himself and his ideas (no mater how unreal they are, whatever they are) in the most positive of terms.

I am a 60 year old male who joined a small business group to join their pool for group insurance. I pay about $650/mo or $7,800/yr for just my health insurance. My deductible is $5,000. That means my paying a year's premium and any expenses, I do not have any insurance company help until I have spent $12,000. By joining a group plan, I am covered for pre-existing conditions.

The Medicare average cost per person in my county (Pima, Arizona) is about $900/mo.

I could pay less it I wanted an individual plan but pre-existing conditions would not be covered. This is how medical insurance works. No complaints, just the facts.

Like most other fools, he thinks “insurance” is where somebody else pays for your problems, without you ever having done anything to compensate them for doing so.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.
Snip The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Snip

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

Years ago, I paid insurance claims. I was also a group insurance underwriter. In the case of modern group insurance, it is usually the employer who contracts with the insurer to provide insurance for his employees and (most times) their family. If it is a large group of people, the premiums are based on the cost of payout (actual “experience” or use of the benefits.) If it is a smaller group, a portion of the “experience” is actual use and a portion predicted use from the actuarial tables adjusted for utilization by similar age and location populations as the group. The employer pays a portion of the premium. Usually, a minimum of 20% is required from the employee and a larger portion contribution is required for family insurance. (Unions often negotiate 90% ratios.)

The bill is submitted to the claims payer who calculates the amount payable according to the terms of the contract. They simply follow what the contract says. Sometimes a computer does most of it. Some disputes are whether the service providers are charging outlandish prices for what they did. That determination is based on regional norms or may involve medical specialists who review the report on the procedure and compare with relative charges. Some disputes are about whether an experimental treatment is covered under the contract or treatment is necessary and appropriate as defined under the contract. It is a matter of the contract.

The Democrats make the insurance carrier out to be the villain. “They” won't cover a pre-existing condition. “They” denied my claim or would not pay all of it. The Democrats want to force the insurance carriers to cover all these things. The problem is that this changes the private contract with the employer. The new coverage and benefits will increase the costs incurred under the plan, so the premiums will go up accordingly. Many states have imposed mandatory coverage for things like pregnancy, mental health
and preventive services in the contract. This pushes the premium up.

Obama and Pelosi’s rhetoric is all the victim mentality of modern times that the Democrats love to leverage for more control. We are a victim of the mean old powerful corporate insurance industry that is being stingy and cruel to us. Limits on benefits, pre-existing conditions, maximum pay outs, reasonable costs and requirements for deductibles, out of pocket keep insurance premiums down. The employer has selected what he wants for his money. Employees can buy supplemental insurance for themselves if they want more coverage, or if both spouse work, coordination of benefits likely pays the whole thing.

Sure, people with pre-existing conditions, the self-employed and some others have problems getting help with their medical bills or accessing affordable insurance. That doesn't mean you destroy the existing system that works pretty well for the vast majority of the population - mandate benefits and coverage and go to a single payer system.

Even more, the "analysis" of the ideas behind insurance that our president holds is just amazingly stupid.

Here is some insight into his understanding of auto insurance:

"When I was young, just got out of college, I had to buy auto insurance. I had a beat-up old car. And I won’t name the name of the insurance company, but there was a company — let’s call it Acme Insurance in Illinois. And I was paying my premiums every month. After about six months I got rear-ended and I called up Acme and said, I’d like to see if I can get my car repaired, and they laughed at me over the phone because really this was set up not to actually provide insurance what it was set up was to meet the legal requirements. But it really wasn’t serious insurance. Now, it’s one thing if you’ve got an old beat-up car that you can’t get fixed. It’s another thing if your kid is sick, or you’ve got breast cancer."

Is it possible that Barack Obama, future editor of the Harvard Law Review and President of the United States, found simple insurance decisions utterly mystifying and had no idea what he had actually purchased? You don't understand that comprehensive and collision are NOT normally purchased on an old beater of a car? And we are supposed to just "trust you" that you understand the complexities of health care coverage?

As someone who has owned an insurance brokerage, I am used to the idea of patiently explaining to ignoramuses that just because you "paid your premiums" this does not mean you have coverage for every conceivable thing that might happen to your vehicle. There are some things which are specifically excluded or included, as there are in any contract.

It is jaw droppingly stupid that this man, who clearly has no idea of the terms, limitations, exclusions and definitions of covered claims is telling us that *HE* is the one who will fix the health care insurance industry, and that his solutions are the ones we should look to.

It is astounding to me that a man who has never even HELD A JOB, much less run a company, thinks he understands one sixth of the nation's economy better than anyone else.

.... or maybe the issues are deeper. Perhaps Obama is trying to show the inate racism and snooty superiority of businesses who "laugh" at rubes, especially minority rubes, who try to collect. They clearly need punishing, and the populace need PROTECTION from these exploiters!

The state of illinois, bless their hearts, TRIED to protect young starry eyed Barry, fresh in his first "job" as a community organizer. They published in this little form some great advice. It is found when you google for auto insurance in Illinois, and tells you to "Understand what you are buying. Ask for a detailed explanation in layman’s terms. Don’t accept calculations or examples you don’t understand. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

But with Obama's razor sharp intellect, he -alas- made the decision that over 90% of the American public makes re: an old junker and ONLY BOUGHT THIRD PARTY LIABILITY! He may have saved money on it but now that the accident has occurred, surely you can see the moral justification in forcing the wicked greedy insurance company to pay out. I mean, he WOULD HAVE paid the extra premiums if only he had known he would have an accident! Surely something can be done! He PAID HIS PREMIUMS EVERY MONTH! The heartbreaking injustice is on full display!

Finally, the company should be punished for not explaining the eye poppingly simple solution to him that he should file a claim AGAINST THE DRIVER AT FAULT! But all that is too confusing and bewildering to our ace wonder in the White House. And if it is too confusing to a man who can manage a degree from Columbia University without ever showing up on campus to the point that anyone remembers seeing him, how can your common folk manage to wade thru the morass? SAVE US, oh Messiah! What we simple rubes need is a system that will nanny us from cradle to grave. Oh save us!
