Jeb Bush, GOP: Time to leave Reagan behind
The Washington TImes ^ | May 3, 2009 | Joseph Curl

Posted on 02/25/2010 4:29:48 PM PST by Brices Crossroads

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that it's time for the Republican Party to give up its "nostalgia" for the heyday of the Reagan era and look forward, even if it means stealing the winning strategy deployed by Democrats in the 2008 election.

"You can't beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don't like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that," Mr. Bush said.

The former president's brother, often mentioned as a potential candidate in 2012, said President Obama's message of hope and change during the 2008 campaign clearly resonated with Americans.

"So our ideas need to be forward looking and relevant. I felt like there was a lot of nostalgia and the good old days in the [Republican] messaging. I mean, it's great, but it doesn't draw people toward your cause," Mr. Bush said.

I can't think of one more influential lot of people in the GOP who did more to undermine and destroy the Reagan Legacy than the Bush Family. Poppy wasted no time starting the downturn of the Reagan military with ther help of Cheney and congress. The main reason I don't care for Cheney is his helping the Bushs rather than standing up to them.

Basically the Bush's have stood against just about everything Reagan stood for including a strong national defense. Poppy gave up on the Bush Legacy almost immediately and tried to replace it with his 1000 points of Rockefeller Republican Liberalism. He brought in all the Nixon/Ford Neocon Losers of failed policies past and gave them key positions as did W. His son George brought them back I reckon to finish off what Poppy and Clinton hadn't yet accomplished.

I will never vote for a member of that family for any elected elected office. Their political arrogance approaches that on the Kennedy's. Reagan wasn't perfect but he was many steps above any of what the Bush family has done while in office.

How about: “My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you I have just signed legislation that will outlaw RINOS forever. We begin purging in five minutes.”

This must be Jeb’s way of bowing out of the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Watch for Poppy and Junior to pull out all political stops pretty soon to have him in the running. That family like the Kennedy's thinks they are owed offices. Enough of the Kennedy's and enough of the family Bush as well.

Don't forget Bush the Elder referring to Reagan's Economic Plan as “Voodoo”.

Booming Economy and record Federal Income Tax Revenues, then Bush screwed the pooch when he took over in 88.

Reagan, the best President of the last Century. Every time I see or hear the Commie Poseur we have today, I miss Reagan that much more.

“If all of this seems like a great deal of trouble, think what’s at stake. We are faced with the most evil enemy mankind has known in his long climb from the swamp to the stars. There can be no security anywhere in the free world if there is no fiscal and economic stability within the United States. Those who ask us to trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state are architects of a policy of accommodation.”

“Don’t forget Bush the Elder referring to Reagan’s Economic Plan as “Voodoo”.”

In 1980, Bush the Elder predicted that Reagan’s tax cuts would lead to 32% inflation. Instead of saying “forget Reagan”, Jeb should be apologizing that his father got it so wrong!! When Reagan left office the tax rate was 28%. It is now 35% and about to go back to 39% when Bush 43’s measly little tax cut expires.

I said it at the time and history has proven me right: the biggest mistake that Reagan ever made was picking Bush, Sr. to be his vice president. It led to an inability to build on the Reagan years because his successor did not believe the same things. This then gave us Clinton and Bush 2 and now Obama - and huge government growth with Republicans being blamed just as much as Democrats. If Reagan had picked a conservative running mate, I believe the last 20 years would have been much different.

Does. Not. Have. A. Clue.

It’s not about nostalgia. It’s about conservative principles, of which Ronald Reagan was the paradigmatic enunciator as a politician in the latter half of the 20th century.

I said it at the time and history has proven me right: the biggest mistake that Reagan ever made was picking Bush, Sr. to be his vice president.

I remember thinking at the time Reagan did the right thing by picking Bush. He and I were both wrong.

Hindsight is an easy thing but he won 44 states by his ability to reach out to other groups, primarily working-class Democrats, "Reagan Democrats". He would have won anyway with a VP closer to his thinking, so you were right.

I started reading the chapter, "Reagan Democrats", in Craig Shirley's book on the 1980 campaign today. The first paragraph says it all. It's about the Wisconsin primary:

Ronald Reagan headed for Milwaukee's South Side, where he gave a rousing speech in Serb Hall. Speaking at this ethnic Mecca had been a rite of passage for Democratic presidential candidates for many years but verboten for nearly all Republicans. That is, until Reagan. The joint was packed to the gills, the cold beer was only fifty cents, and the crowd was rockin' with Ronnie.
The point of that is that having a prissy elitist like Bush on the ticket made no difference to these people. Reagan should have known better, but nobody's perfect.

I miss him so much.

Thats it, i think its time we leave Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush behind.

Reagan spoke of American values and virtues. i can no sooner leave that behind then i can stop speaking my mind and my heart.

Sure Reagan was not right on everything and made a lot of mistakes, but he makes you Jeb look bad.
