Eyewitness Reporting
Today, in the Missouri Senate, a Resolution acknowledged Missouri Native, Jamie McMurray, Proclaiming Feb 25th, 2010 Jamie McMurray Day for his contributions to Missouri, NASCAR, and winning the Daytona 500. Jamie took the Proclamation at the Speakers Podium and addressed the Senate Chambers briefly. Also acknowledged was John Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, a $1.9 Billion business, located in Springfield Missouri, as the sponsor of Jamie McMurrays #1 Bass Pro Chevy.
Then Jamie and Morris went to the Missouri House Chamber for recognition by Speaker of the House Richards, who is from Jamie’s Home Town of Joplin Mo. Speaker Richards has known Jamie and his family for many years and gave the chamber some recollections of Jamie as a youngster. Jamie addressed the Missouri House Chambers saying that speaking in front of people was much more difficult than driving a race car, but it came with the job. After many photo ops, many members of the House lined up for autographs. A reception was held later for Jamie and Mr Morris.
A Bass Pro #1 Chevy was on display in front of the Mo Capital steps. It is my understanding that Jamie drove the car from the Jefferson City airport, across the Missouri River, to the Capital, with a highway patrol escort.
I was in attendance in Both the Senate and House Galleries, joined by my wife in the House Gallery, who is a Jamie McMurray Fan. Unfortunately I was unable to take any pictures except one on my cell phone that didn’t turn out. as Chamber rules prohibit flash cameras.
