Glenn Beck Rips Republicans in CPAC Show-Stopper
Politics Daily ^ | 2/20/10 | Patricia Murphy

Glenn Beck, the Fox News personality and chalkboard scrawling libertarian hero, gave the marquee speech Saturday night at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

Swapping out a teleprompter for his famous chalkboard, Glenn Beck wowed the faithful with an hour-long presentation that defended conservatism, praised the Founding Fathers and lampooned Washington, D.C. as an addict in need of immediate treatment. He looked to history to predict that without an immediate course correction and reduction of the federal budget deficit, America is headed for "an economic holocaust." Beck began by praising Ronald Reagan, whose famous campaign ad "Morning in America" envisioned America's best days as still being ahead of it. "It is still morning in America," Beck said. "It just happens to be kind of a head-pounding, hung-over, vomiting for four hours kind of morning in America. And it's shaping up to be kind of a nasty day, but it is still morning in America."

Beck blamed Washington politicians for the country's poor condition, and accused both parties of growing the size of government, spending beyond the country's means, tolerating corruption, and embracing an array of liberal policy prescriptions that he equated with a cancer in American society.

Republicans, he said, are just as guilty as Democrats. "It's not enough just to not suck as much as the other side," he said. "The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. I have not heard people in the Republican Party admit they have a problem and when I did hear them say they have a problem, I don't know if I believed them."

The Republicans' problem, he said, is the same as Democrats' problem-- an addiction to spending, a willingness to place the judgment of the government ahead of the rights of individuals,

"As I recall he was not a huge Romney fan in 2008... so you sarcasm that he would automatically support Romney because he is a mormon is uncalled for"

Beck has a show to put on. Says a lot wise things. But he's a mormon who's in a cult, so I really don't (IMO) put too much weight behind the message. Much rather listen to Sarah or to Michelle Malkin. Brains; both.

He did not state who it was, but from questions he asked of the man, it must have been George Soros.

Jon Huntsman. He and Beck are close friends, and Beck once dedicated a whole show to interviewing him.

“Beck has no roots, knowledge or appreciation of Republicans.”

In this speech at CPAC he praised Reagan - but few know Beck has also said this about Ronald Reagan, “I've always said I was a Reagan-style conservative. But I don't think Reagan was a real Republican. He just maintained some shared values”....
He has a great disdain for the Republicans that he won't let go of. He admits he hates George W. bush, and places him on the list of the most dangerous progressives of the last decade. One great attribute is him reaching out to a whole demographic that Rush, Levine, and Hannity has not been able to reach the young voters, and women - But if he brainwashes them into voting third party what good is that going to do? I fear another Ross Perot peeling off 15% of the conservative vote which will get us another fur years of Obama.

“so I really don’t (IMO) put too much weight behind the message.”

If G.B. says “2 + 2 = 4” it is not suddenly false because of... well... anything.

I don’t agree with him on everything... Hey, did you watch the speech?

No need to get snarky about me reading and rereading for a third time.

With proper comma placement or movement of the direct object in the sentence, it would have been more clear.

Nonetheless, I've offered my apologies to onyx.

Beck serves a relevant role in political discourse, yet I genuinely despise his wholesale indictment of the Party of Lincoln.

Yes, he came up here tonight and spoke at our Lincoln Day Dinner... I saw a blurb in the paper last week and didn’t think I would know anyone there, but Hildy saw my note on the AZ board here and contacted me and managed to get them to hold a ticket for me, it was a sold out crowd.. excellent dinner, too... he really gave a very good speech and made a lot of excellent points... I look forward to a debate between him and McCain...oh, and the people who ran McCain’s POTUS campaign are running this campaign... only they are doing scorched earth against JD here.

The GOP does need to admit they screwed up, royally.
**********************************

They sure did, but not nearly as bad as the Dems are screwing up this country right NOW!

He cannot seriously make a wholesale swipe and fault all Republicans in saying they’re equally as bad as the Democrats. He loses all credibility.

Agreed.

Beck likes to paint himself as above it all, better and smarter than everybody else. Yeah, a whole lot of Republicans have screwed up, mainly by running like scared bunny rabbits from the scumbag Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms who whine about meanness every time irresponsible, massive spending is challenged, but c'mon - - as bad as the Democrats?

Put down the bong and get a grip, Glenn.

OMG. He had to bring in the big campaign dogs to run against little ole JD! Scorched earth says they’re trying to knock him out early. Well, your primary isn’t until late August... the 23 or thereabout. There’s a lot of campaigning in between. Have everyone who vacations in San Diego put a JD bumper sticker on their car.

Yes, no doubt they are better than then Dems but I totally agree with Glenn. Sucking a little less is NOT good enough!!!

So much for assessing each of the politicians individually, right? And I underline the word "individual", ironically, because it's a word that seems to have been lost by the libertarian Beck in his assessment.

As I said, the first step to recovery is admitting who, individually sucks (to whatever degree), and who is good. It's not good enough to say only that some "suck" and that "others suck a little less than others". It's also important to say who is "good".

Strange idea, huh?

Anyway, Beck in all his brilliance, scribbles all over that one important point.

And I will point it out regardless of your post, filled with foul mouthed language.

Yes. A good show. Liked it very much.

I also heard Beck say "us Christians" on his show during the Christmas season. But.......mormons aren't Christian, so he really needs to rethink the core values, clearly.
