"While I was flipping through the autobiography, a woman approached the booth. Catherine Sumner, it turned out, was part of GOProud, a group of openly gay Republicans and conservatives that for the first time is taking part in CPAC. Is this your flyer? Sumner demanded, waving the white and green pamphlet. Thus launched a debate about gays in the military that pretty much ended when the booth attendee told her that homosexuality is a sin and shes going to hell.
Its insulting, Sumner, 31, who edits a military magazine, said turning away. Across the board the reaction to GOProuds presence here has been positive, but then you have guys like this. Even Dick Cheney came out and says he supports us. Conservatives have to be more inclusive, they have to be. In fact, just one group, Liberty University, boycotted CPAC over the inclusion of GOProud, though the Catholic crowd werent the only ones unnerved by their presence: one booth down from GOProuds set up in the fourth row, those manning the National Organization for Marriage, which works to ban gay marriage, kept casting nervous and slightly envious glances at the somewhat larger crowd surrounding GOProuds booth.
The tensions didnt end there. Along the back wall 2004 World Poker Champion Greg Raymer stood waiting for a talk radio interview. Focus on the Family considers poker immoral, Raymer said, gesturing towards the Focus on the Family booth down an aisle. They have no right to tell me what to do. Raymer is at CPAC representing the Poker Players Alliance..."

In addition the push for same-sex “marriage,” which is fundamentally an attack on religious freedom.
I was once a libertarian, and still lean that way. However, there are some libertarians who try to treat government as if it is some sort of mathematical equation. Government does not exist in a vacuum; our way of life is shaped by the cultural history that has provided our ability to understand certain truths.
Without that, we cannot recognize any rights. When traditional Western culture is repeatedly attacked, it is simultaneously an attack on the very fabric of our way of life, and therefore, our rights.
I didn’t say make them listen but if they are standing there and I say it, I have every right. If they don’t want to hear it, they have every right to put their fingers in their ears and chant “nana nana boo boo, I can’t hear you”. I could imagine liberals doing that. :)
To suggest that CPAC has turned its back on social conservatives is ridiculous.
I’m writing this from CPAC and the place is crawling with pro-life and pro-family people, most of whom are polite to those with whom they disagree. Just about every angle of conservative and libertarian thought is represented here. I’ve spent a lot of time in the exhibit area over the last three days and haven’t seen a whole lot of interest in either the pro-gay or anti-gay forces. I rather doubt that they will reconcile their differences on those issues, but it sure doesn’t look like the death of social conservatism going on here.
“Tehran??”. Melodramatic much?
You know, there comes a threshold where you step beyond being a “so-con” opposing gay marriage, a perfectly reasonable position, to having an intense personal dislike of gays as people, and presuming to be an arbiter of who’s welcome in the conservative movement and who isn’t based on your own personal tastes.
CPAC not wishing to persecute a group you don’t like does NOT equal you being persecuted.
Dead wrong.
The land from which minerals and crops come isn't going anywhere.
Social conservatives understand this and are willing to endure a time of hardship and rebuild later. Loss of all wealth that now is, is like losing your house and possessions in a fire. You rebuild.
The fiscal situation not only is not something to compromise over, it is an opportunity for those who misplaced their values on things to learn the value of God, family, and true friends...and the utter uselessness of government in hard times.
In some ways this era may turn out to be good for America.
AMEN!! THE ABOVE POST SHOULD BE SHOUTED FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOPS! IT SHOULD BE PLASTERED IN BLOG POSTINGS, LETTERS AND EMAILS TO CPAC.
CPAC, are you listening? CPAC, you are a joke. The Saul Alinsky strategy of conquer from within via incrementalism is alive and well at CPAC, and they are too clueless to recognize what is going on. WAKE UP!
~ Ronald Reagan, 4th Annual CPAC Convention, February 6, 1977: "The New Republican Party"
Well, his daughter is gay, so that is to be expected. Not much of an argument there.
CPAC is now Cornhole PAC.
No more donations to any RNC PACs. I donate directly to candidates I want to see elected. If the Repubs want to fall in line with me and other conservatives, fine.
“If they dont want to hear it, they have every right to put their fingers in their ears and chant nana nana boo boo, I cant hear you. I could imagine liberals doing that. :)”
LOL! When I was young I SAW liberals doing that. Outside an abortion mill I was at a protest. I wasn’t doing the protesting, I was just there to pick up chicks. It was a pro-abort rally and you already know those chicks “put out.” Anyway, there was a group of Christians on the corner being quite vociferous in their disagreement of the practice, the libs being unable to out-shout them, simply plugged their ears. Of course you can’t hold up your signs with your fingers in your ears.
I wound up walking over to the Christians and joining that crowd. I figured I’d rather be spiritually and emotional fulfilled forever that physically fulfilled for 20 minutes or so.
“To suggest that CPAC has turned its back on social conservatives is ridiculous.”
The thunderous reception that Romney received and the thundering reception that Dick Cheney received (after endorsing repeal of DADT) belies that statement. The booing of the YAF guy from California is further evidence of it.
“Im writing this from CPAC and the place is crawling with pro-life and pro-family people, most of whom are polite to those with whom they disagree.”
Of course, it is. And of course they are polite. Prolifers and ProFamily people are the nicest people on the planet, far too polite to boo someone for expressing a point of view that has been held by Judeo Christianity for about 3000 years.
None of the profamily forces have been disinvited, because (Flash) they represent organizations (like Focus on the Family) that represent Millions of voters to which the Romneys of the world are FORCED (and I do mean FORCED, because he secretly holds them in contempt) to appeal to if they want to have any electoral success, which is their only path to power (their true goal).
But, and pay attention to this, the MARGINALIZATION of the prolife, profamily forces in CPAC is well underway. They are tolerated, while the anti-life and anti-family forces are celebrated and defended.
CPAC shall forever be known in my house as the DNC(hiney)PAC or QUEERPAC for short.
Yet Fred Thompson now has come out in support of the ultra liberal McCain. Perhaps she realized this side of Fred this earlier than we did.
For the whole series of Zero dollar bills, go here:
“...Id rather be spiritually and emotional fulfilled forever that physically fulfilled for 20 minutes or so.”
I hope you have come to realize that it isn’t an “either or” situation. :)
“You know, there comes a threshold where you step beyond being a so-con opposing gay marriage, a perfectly reasonable position, to having an intense personal dislike of gays as people, and presuming to be an arbiter of whos welcome in the conservative movement”
Welcome to FR. I have no intense personal dislike for anyone. I do have an intense personal dislike of someone sticking their particular sexual proclivities (whatever they may be) into a political debate. It has no place in the conservative movement, nor for that matter, IMHO here on FR.
“CPAC not wishing to persecute a group you dont like does NOT equal you being persecuted.”
It does not amount to “persecution” not to invite a person or a group to a political conference. Does “freedom of association ring a bell? I mean, you must have heard of the first amendment. Try reading the Constitution and thenlet’s have a discussion, newbie.
Next thing you know Miss Rinoette will be invited next year. That is when we boycott them outside.
“But, and pay attention to this, the MARGINALIZATION of the prolife, profamily forces in CPAC is well underway. They are tolerated, while the anti-life and anti-family forces are celebrated and defended.”
Total nonsense. I’m here and it ain’t happening. The stark differences on some issues is going to bring catcalls from somewhere whenever they are brought to a head. Far more tension between the anti-military Paulists and the regulars, for example. You’re reading way too much into a couple of tiny squabbles. There are 10,000 people here.
No they don't! When you become more 'inclusive' you force many voters to stay home, just in order to please the Republican left, who have lost election after election.
You either stand for what you believe in or lose. It's time to tell the left of the Republican party to shut up like they have been telling the rest of us for years.
"Inclusive" = John McCain, Lindsey Graham, George Bush, etc. And look where we are today!
Please show me where the Democrats are "inclusive". They even force their so-called moderates to give up their seats.
“I hope you have come to realize that it isnt an either or situation. :)”
LOL, you sound like my fiance and one of my favorite Pastors I ever heard speak on the subject of relationships and sex.
