Video: CPAC boos speaker for condemning invite to gay conservative group (CPAC to SoCons:"Get lost")

"While I was flipping through the autobiography, a woman approached the booth. Catherine Sumner, it turned out, was part of GOProud, a group of openly gay Republicans and conservatives that for the first time is taking part in CPAC. “Is this your flyer?” Sumner demanded, waving the white and green pamphlet. Thus launched a debate about gays in the military that pretty much ended when the booth attendee told her that homosexuality is a sin and she’s going to hell.

“It’s insulting,” Sumner, 31, who edits a military magazine, said turning away. “Across the board the reaction to GOProud’s presence here has been positive, but then you have guys like this. Even Dick Cheney came out and says he supports us. Conservatives have to be more inclusive, they have to be.” In fact, just one group, Liberty University, boycotted CPAC over the inclusion of GOProud, though the Catholic crowd weren’t the only ones unnerved by their presence: one booth down from GOProud’s set up in the fourth row, those manning the National Organization for Marriage, which works to ban gay marriage, kept casting nervous – and slightly envious – glances at the somewhat larger crowd surrounding GOProud’s booth.

The tensions didn’t end there. Along the back wall 2004 World Poker Champion Greg Raymer stood waiting for a talk radio interview. “Focus on the Family considers poker immoral,” Raymer said, gesturing towards the Focus on the Family booth down an aisle. “They have no right to tell me what to do.” Raymer is at CPAC representing the Poker Players Alliance..."

“Ah....the video is now up.

And Sorba was a jerk.... and right out of the chute, too.

He asked for it and I’d have booed the little twerp as well.”

What would you have done? Politely ignored something you felt strongly about? What if they had invited a group that you thought was an anathema to conservatives? Would you just have kept your mouth shut? He had the guts to take a stand. He was blunt but not vulgar. And you call him a jerk for standing up for his beliefs. And you do so from the safety of anonymity. You sound like you want to hoist a white flag instead of a black one.

It is the lens through which they see everything.

And I don’t mean all homosexuals but the ones pushing the agenda.

You mean, he didn’t agree with the GOProud homosexual agenda. Good for him. They’re more rude, plus they want to remake society into Sodom and Gommorah. That’s even worse than raising one’s voice.

Pushing the homosexual agenda too much. They forget to focus on the main issue — the defeat of Obamanism.

Very first words out of his mouth:

"Just to change the subject for a second...I'd like to condemn CPAC for bring GOPride to this event."
He was rude and combative.

He starts calling members of the crowd 'enemies'.

He was a real first class jerk.

He might be a nice guy elsewhere....but I doubt it.

“GOProud promotes our traditional conservative agenda by influencing politics and policy at the federal level.”

You can stand with that statement if you want, but don’t associate Reagan with it. GOProud may stand for what CPAC calls “OUR(emphasis added) traditional conservative agenda.” It does not stand for what a genuine traditional conservative agenda is, which involves social as well as economic conservatism.

Legislative Priorities

GOProud's Conservative Agenda

The so-called "gay agenda" is defined by the left through a narrow prism of legislative goals. While hate crimes and employment protections may be worthy goals, there are many other important priorities that receive little attention from the gay community. GOProud's agenda emphasizes conservative and libertarian principles that will improve the daily lives of all Americans, but especially gay and lesbian Americans.

1 - TAX REFORM - Death tax repeal; domestic partner tax equity, and other changes to the tax code that will provide equity for gays and lesbians; cut in the capital gains and corporate tax rates to jump start our economy and create jobs; a fairer, flatter and substantially simpler tax code.

2 - HEALTHCARE REFORM - Free market healthcare reform. Legislation that will allow for the purchase of insurance across state lines - expanding access to domestic partner benefits; emphasizing individual ownership of healthcare insurance - such a shift would prevent discriminatory practices by an employer or the government.

3 - SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM - Bringing basic fairness to the Social Security system through the creation of inheritable personal savings accounts.

4 - DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL REPEAL - Repeal of the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.

5 - HOLDING THE LINE ON SPENDING - Standing up for all tax payers against wasteful and unneccessary spending to protect future generations from the mounting federal debt.

6 - FIGHTING GLOBAL EXTREMISTS - Standing strong against radical regimes who seek to criminalize gays and lesbians.

7 - DEFENDING OUR CONSTITUTION - Opposing any anti-gay federal marriage amendment.

8 - ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP - Package of free market reforms to encourage and support small businesses and entrepreneurship in the gay community.

9 - REVITALIZING OUR COMMUNITIES - A package of urban related reforms; expanding historic tax preservation credits; support for school choice.

10 - DEFENDING OUR COMMUNITY - Protecting 2nd amendment rights.

Thanks for the explanation.

People pushing the homsoexual agenda are enemies of conservativism.

So he was perfectly correct, and if I had been there, I would have cheered him.

Curious you don’t see it that way. You want the homosexual agenda to change the conservative platform?
