I doubt Reagan was “embracing” homosexuals, and he certainly never spoke about giving them special rights.

On the other hand, he invited an openly homosexual couple to sleep in the White house. He was not intolerant, even though he did not condone homosexuality. I think the line Reagan walked would be a sound one for us today, hate the sin, love the sinner, fight against special rights, fight against the movement to condone homosexual acts, but be tolerant of others, and don’t make sexual orientation a litmus test.
Oh? What homosexual couple was that? Governor Reagan purged what was understood to be a homosexual cabal from his administration in San Francisco.
