My father-in-law, Lt. Col. James Lucore, was in the only Army unit to hit the beaches, the 75th JASCO (Joint Assault Signal Company). Took about 75% casualties setting up communication lines.

He gave me a photo of one of the flags on Surabachi.

Mark Levin’s grandfather fought on Iwo, John Batchelor’s father fought there, and Swift Boat Veterans leader John O’Neill’s father flew missions there.
