In another surprising step forward for the public option, Senator Harry Reids office says that if a final decision is made to pass health reform via reconciliation, the Majority Leader would support holding a reconciliation vote on the public option.
With more and more Senators signing on to the letter urging Reid to hold an up or down vote on the public option under reconciliation rules, Reid spokesman Rodell Mollineau sends over a statement signaling Reids qualified support for the move:
Senator Reid has always and continues to support the public option as a way to drive down costs and create competition. That is why he included the measure in his original health care proposal.
If a decision is made to use reconciliation to advance health care, Senator Reid will work with the White House, the House, and members of his caucus in an effort to craft a public option that can overcome procedural obstacles and secure enough votes.
Thats a fairly big step forward: Up until now, Reid, while supporting the public option throughout the process, had been silent on whether hed support a reconciliation vote on it.

This is dictatorship and must be resisted in the streets. These POS are nuts. 65% oppose this crap. No mercy as we crush this with public demonstrations — HUGE DEMONSTRATIONS!! TEA PARTY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This rat crap. If they were going to do this, it would be done by now. I don’t think it is going to happen this close to an election.
After the rats lose the election and are lame ducks, watch out! BOHICA!
Wait, I thought that what reconcilliation was all about is that it isn’t subject to a CLOTURE vote.
That is unless the GOP wins majorities that can override the President’s veto.
This “bi-partisan” meeting is to give the democrats cover by saying that the Republicans were just obstructionists and wouldn’t contribute so we had to do this..............
True. But, it's not mathematically possible to pick up enough seats in the Senate to get to 2/3rds. There's just not enough sitting Dems up for reelection. If the GOP wins all the seats up for grabs, they'll still only have 59, which is 7 short of what they need.
We can overturn anything with 51 votes .
if the Marxist Dictator wanna be tries it then Congress will BLOW UP for decades .
Anything but a veto. The two-thirds requirement is actually written into the Constitution. Until we unseat Obama in 2012, whatever they pass will stick around.

THIS SHOULD BE REQUIRED VIEWING
THE HUDSON INSTITUTE OR Hudson.org
presented “speakers” who spoke the truth about the destruction of America!
This covers the economy to the health care debate and the Unconstitutionality of what the obamanation is doing to America!
If the GOP gains control they should try to rack up as many Vetoes as possible .
Since the Dems have thrown away the Senate / House
rules then why should we acknowledge any of them.
Scorch earth on everything /
He will be removed from office by force .
That's not exactly what O'Donnell said:
"For instance, should Republicans challenge a provisions inclusion and get a favorable ruling from the parliamentarian, without 60 votes, Democrats will be unable to overturn it leading to a bill that looks more like Swiss cheese than health reform."
Note: that's IF the parliamentarian rules for the Republicans. Who chooses the parliamentarian?
However, although debate is strictly limited, as I understand it, Repubs can introduce an unlimited number of amendments, which should be just as good as a filibuster.
That's my thought exactly. Just do it, and quit all the posturing. They are trying to demoralize their opponents, but they're just embarrassing themselves.
I know, I posted something to that theory myself.
The dumba$$ pubbies should day NO and do it asap.
I don't doubt they'll try.
>Great way to ensure that ALL RATs are voted out for the next 100 years.
Now if only we could do the same with Republicans...
I’m for having American Constitutionalist Statesmen rather than political-party aligned politicians.
The Progressive Marxist democrat party, however, has plans to change Senate rules to disallow amendments.
